I am a senior at East Side and its not as bad as it seems. The problem is that teachers are giving up. All the teachers say is "no matter what you do ill still get a paycheck"...thats where the problem starts. The students only do what the staff let them do. It is coming to a change but only slowly. -Class of 2012

As both parent & teacher I have seen a lot of issues dealt with from both sides. I can say this the problems that arise stem from two things...no parental involvement & politics. Maybe if the actual education of all students was considered we'd be ok.

This is my 3rd yr in the school and yet the years get worst. They now have a new policy for juniors. If you don't pass the PSAE you will not receive your diploma when you walk across the stage. you will only receive certificate of attendence. And you will only hav 4 years in the school. If you don't have all your credits and your 4th year went by you will no longer go to the school again.

I think East Side is an out of control school. The teacher nor the principal have control over the school. The kids walk the halls after the bell ring be late for class .They should have kept the Lincoln high school and not combine those school together thats was a big mistake.

I currently attend East St.Louis Senior High School. I have been going here for three years now and East Side is a good school. The media make this school look bad.

For 1 this is a great school. The parents always talk about what's wrong with the school they never talk about the good things that come from the school. They never talk about how the school is trying to keep us teens off the streets. This year the even added an extra sport to the extra curriculums. Now i dont see any reviews about that. Now i am sick and tired of people always putting our school down. I am proud of where i am from and what i have accomplished from East Saint Louis Senior High School. I think if people don't want their kids to be influenced by this kind of behavior they should not send them there. They know what they are putting there kids in when they enroll them. This really makes me mad when I hear our own parents putting our school down.

I am at East Side everyday and the parent principal involvement is poor. PTA information is poor. Where is the school song? It use to be mandatory for us to sing the school song at every assembly game or any function. I always see the boys wearing their pants off of their butts. I also think that some of the girl wear their skirts too short. No wonder the kids can't concentrate on school work. These are some of the bad things that I see. There are still a lot of positive things that go on at the school.

I previously attended East St Louis High school my freshmen sophmore and beginning of my Junior year. I'm currently in my senior year attending Lincoln High School in SD for better chances at college acceptance. I was placed in Honors so my teachers were great at teaching about many aspects of life. Not all were as compassionate about there jobs some would work with you untill you understood while others probably cared less if you even came to class. When telling students or teachers that I went to E side High they immediately go to the negative. The education mentality of teachers and students has sadly diminished in the years. Education no longer the main objective of school it seems as their focas on disapline.

I attend this school for 4 years of my life and it was not bad it was school. Of course bad things happened but bad things happen at every school.I did good at school and in my studies also. It was just highschool and all the pressure and stress that comes with it. It was just LIFE!

i think this is a great school but the teachers there should express more intrest in the students instead of the salaries they make.

I think that East Side may not be a perfect school. But look at other schools. They aren't perfect either and I mean that all schools are not perfect including the ones where you have to pay thousands of dollars for. I think that since this is a predominantly black school. People automatically think that this school is full of gangs and fights it is not. There are students who actually want to further along their education and go on to bigger and better things. But the fact of where we are people will not give us the chance to do it. You have alot of smart people at this school. Who have gotten turned down alot. Just because of the history of East Side and what people have sterotyped East Side as. Like they say. Never judge a book by its cover.

From my point of view having children graduate at the top of their class in 1999 2001 and 2004. I think its a good school. Its not the teachers fault its the parents fault for having disrespectful children and not teaching them right from wrong. The parents who children are always in fights always want to blame the administrators and the teachers for how they raised their chidren. I want to tell the school and the teachers to keep doing what your doing and teach those who want to be taught because there is no student who dont want an educaution they just want to have fun while they can.

I'm one of the few white people in the school and everybody saying how unsafe it is and I agree but you gotta be able to defend yaself or this aint the place for ya. The education aint as good as it should be and i think it should be better but it aint like teachers and administration care. They just wanna stay as far away as they can.

There isn't anything wrong with the school per say but improvements could be made toward poor curricular areas such as math and science. I was in the graduating class of 2002 and I remember East Side being a great place. I'm not saying it was the best but if your child was strong emotionally he/she could tolerate East Sides's ups and downs.

East Side just like every other school has it's good points and bad. Trying to place the blame on one element i.e. teachers administrations or 'gangs' is inappropriate and self defeating. The school can definitely use improvements in many areas such as safety and quality of books among other things. It's easy to say the administration and faculty are the problem but the truth is that the problem stems from the condition of the entire city of East Saint Louis. The bottom line is that the school is good for the purpose of getting an adequate education if the students there chooses it. Many students who have attended East Side have gone on to prosper in many ways. The students and the parents need to know they get out of East Side and life for that matter what they put into it.

This school is a haven of horrors! If you enjoy sending your child into a war zone where he or she will literally fight for his or her life send them to East Side. If you child is attacked by one of the many girl gangs who freely roam the school looking for trouble do not expect the administration to deal with the gang! You should expect your child to be sent home for three days while the gang-bangers are returned to class with no consequences for their actions. The metal detectors are completely useless because security ignores the beep when people pass. No one is stopped or questioned about what is on their person.

I am a 1969 graduate of east side and three of my children are past graduates (1999 2001 2004). They are all productive happy young men and women. They were taught by dedicated teachers and encouraged by caring members of the support staff. If a child has a sincere thirst for knowledge shows a respectful manner toward their peers and respects authority neither poor school administors nor safety issues will interfere with their educational goals. All teachers aren't teachers all administrators aren't qualified but if the parent and child are in one accord about the goals expected of them their mission is less bothersome and their focus is clearer.

As a former PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) President I find that East St. Louis Senior High School has a great deal of progress to make. Trememdous strides have been made but much work still remains. The change must start at the top!

This school is not very good on the educational front nor does my child feel safe at school. They are very disorganized and I wouldn't recommend sending your child to this school unless you absolutely had to.
