I am a Great Valley HS graduate and attended GVSD for my entire k-12 education. I moved back to the area when my daughter was born so that she could be afforded the same amazing education. Then she was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome and was to begin GVSD for Kindergarten this year. The special education department is HORRIBLE! They wanted to place her at a school in Coatesville! I would call and leave messages and not get any return calls or emails then I went as far as showing up to the district office and again no one was available to help answer my questions. They were late with their transition plan evaluations and I had set up a tour to see the school they recommended sending my child to. Before she was subjected to an hour long bus ride into Coatesville I immediately moved to Virginia to get my daughter the education she deserves. Great Valley should be ashamed of themselves!

Agree. Terrible special education program. At the elementary level so many mistakes and special ed kids don't meet their goals for the year and the district just resets the goal rather than be concerned about it. From missed deadlines for evaluations to wrong diagnosis they do the bare minimum at our kids expense. They act like its fine that your child isn't on grade level and hasn't made progress because 'they are such a nice kid' that's great but that's not what our goal is...
Terrible special education program. Teachers not current on latest strategies. They send children to a resource room where they are not given assistance...children play video games instead of work. If you have a child with special needs send them to private school or move to another district.
Honestly Great Valley is a fantastic school with fantastic staff and fantastic kids. Whoever writes anything bad about this school is just simply wrong. I love this school and would never want to change.
I'm a parent and I have been appalled at how rude and inconsiderate the front desk staff are to the students. They treat the kids as if they are an annoyance and are totally disrespectful to them with their tone of voice. I was waiting in the office for my child one day and five kids came up with questions and they were very short brusque and demeaning in how they talked to the kids. I could sense the kids leaving their with a sense of humiliation. If the ladies don't like kids so much why do they work there? These kids are people with feelings and should be treated with the utmost respect and made to feel good about themselves not like they are scum that needs to scrubbed and trashed. This is a serious problem!
I love this school. Its so good to my students!
Great School that treats my children very well
Before moving to Great Valley I spent hours doing research on all the schools in the Philadelphia area. Great Valley is the best bar none.
Exceptional education combined with high standards of conduct outstanding parental involvement and eminently well-qualified faculty - our sons have benefited greatly from a well-rounded educational experience that includes a vast array of multi-disciplinary learning opportunities.
GVHS provided the best possible secondary school preparation (Class of 1966) for my eventual career as a professional research scientist at a major NASA Lab. It prepared me exceedingly well for college and grad school. Most importantly when I left GVHS I had learned how to write thanks to a wonderful English teacher--Margaret 'Maggie' McMichael. I can't stress this enough to young students. I hope the modern GVHS keeps the bar as high as our teachers in the '60s did. It was worth all the hard work!
What a great experience my kids had at GVHS..I would highly recommend to anyone
What a excellent place to educate a child. Our sons absolutely love the Middle school and High school. Teachers and staff are knowledgable and interested in students. Our oldest is a Senior this year and has been helped immensely by his counselor with the college search and process. There is a real family atmosphere in both buildings because of their small populations. It is truly like a private academy. The only negative would be the construction. The High School will be a mess for the next few years.
