I have worked in the district for over 10 years. I am now an employee at Byrd school. Byrd school has the best relationship between staff and the administrator than any other school I have been in. When people truly enjoy coming to work it reflects on their teaching. Teachers truly care about their students!

Admiral Byrd School offers students a wonderful place to learn. Highly qualified teachers along with other highy qualified staff plan programs for students that meet their needs. The school is equipped with a delicious lunch program and an opportunity to play on both school property and a public park during outdoor times. The principal and the secretaries have an excellent record of responding to parent questions and requests whether it is by telephone or a 'walk-in' visit. A carefully designed security plan is in effect at all times. A superior cultural arts progam is planned for each year bringing in people from all areas of the art/entertainment world. Saying no to drugs is embeded into the converstaions that people in the building have with children regarding the practice of the 6 pillars of character. Good practices are always recognized by awards. The Learning Media Center is equipped with 3 labs of approximately 30 computers and students have time to use their skills of technology to learn typing prepare presentations in Power Point and Hyperstudio and make DVD's from i_Movie. Academic progress is measured both by a school district data base and personal data charts within each classroom. We have staff that are trained to work with special needs children and provide them with a maximum amount of support. Technology is used to assist students of special needs. Bilingual classes in Spanish are provided for all Spanish speaking families that choose the program and the students are also integrated into the regular education classes whenever the student can show success. The school ia always available for visitation not only for present or future parents but also for those interested in seeing a great school!
