I am not at all surprised to hear these bad reviews. I have two boys. My oldest is finally exiting the awful place. My youngest has 3 more years to go ( I would pull him out if it wasn't for the convenience of living right next door. There is not enough extra help given to the students that need it. I also agree w/ the fact that the principal is an awful woman that speaks awfully to the children. I have caught her on several occasions talking to them like dogs. The teachers yell at the students and literally scream shut-up in the hallways (another upsetting event that I've witnessed often.) There are only a handful of teachers at Harper that you can trust with you're children. My oldest went there for 5 years trust me I know what I'm talking about. Do not choose this School for your child. They will not be happy you will not be happy. They will decline fast unless you become the teacher and do their jobs for them. Regarding after school activities the very few they do have gets old. They need something more fun and encouraging. I mean lets face it our children get bored of the same o same o and there is nothing wrong with that. I think I covered most. Good luck! )

Horrid school. I have two kids in one 3rd and the other 1st. The 3rd grade teacher completely ignores the instruction of the school counselor. We have even set up programs for my son's ADD and she refuses to follow them. Nor does she have the student's write homework assignments in the agenda book! WHATS THE POINT IN US PAYING FOR THAT BOOK?! Instead she verbally tells students the homework and then expects 8 and 9 year olds to remember and then do it?! Seriously? And when we report it to the principal she does nothing either?! No wonder this school is ranked so low.

My daughter went here for two years. If you have a choice go somewhere else. The principal is a horrid lady lacking the proper qualifications to be a principal.

my son was at harper k-3rd grade and i am so glad to be leaving this school . it is one of the worst run schools in the city the teachers are unhappy and the students are not treated very well and principal is all about herself she thinks nothing of the parents and the kids . and she will allow the teachers to call parents thiefs but when you pay for something at the school and dont get it that is ok . would think that would make them a thief. would home school before i would ever take my child back to that school.

As a reply for the comment left by the lady below...my daughter has gone to harper for almost 2 years now. The PTA made up cookbooks from recipes sent in by parents and they were selling those. My daughter has participated in the reading program with pizza hut. She participates in girl scouts after school on tuesdays which is free. They give the children snacks and provide everything. She loves it! She also has been going to learning cafe after school 2 days a week. They learn and do other fun activies. They send home other papers all the time for sports related things to get your child into. I think you have made too quick of a judgement.

I am very upset with Harper School. They dont offer any extracuricular activites for the children or after school learning programs. PTO should also look into asking for parent helpers. With a minimum amount of money PTO fund raisers would work well. My daughter was at Harper for 3 months and was repeatly told the school was too poor for activites. Nice for a child to hear. Rent a snow cone machine and sell them after school for 50 cents. Buy a jar of large pickles from Wal mart and sell those for 50 cents. All teachers should alos participate in the reading programs sponsored by pizza hut but they don't.
