The principal never stops fundraising. Teachers are bored and seem frustrated with their lives. Parent in this community are mostly apathetic Stepford types. Grade inflation is rampant and is the primary reason White Hill seems to provide a good education. Poor kids.

I generally do not post but need to when I see the bottom negative post from a child who apparently is having difficulty. Both my children attended White Hill and are now top performers at Drake and Marin Catholic (baseball scholarship) respectively. My oldest will be attending Stanford as well. It is because of the White Hill faculties progressive leadership and thinking outside of the box to achieve educational excellence this is possible. I will never be able to thank or say enough good about this amazing middle school.
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE!!! Forget every single thing these staff and parents have said forget the positive comments and most of all FORGET WHITE HILL!!! I Have only been here for two years and it has so far been a terrible experience. There are some nice teachers who are fun but they are usually manipulated by the students. The strict teachers always send the wrong kids to the office. The Principal is good at impressing parents and fixing the school but he has a long way to go. In the past the students that attended have commited suicide dealt drugs impregnated each other(this happened on campus) and carried weapons. At one time the school had four different principals in one year. All in all if you are planning to move here and cannot afford private schooling think it over if you live here and cannot afford other schooling you are stuck. If you have the choice check out Kentfield or Mill Valley.
I just called the school - White Hill - to ask what time a track meet was this afternoon at the school ; I was told " I am not sure but I think it might be .." to which I said " may I talk to someone who knows what time the meet is please .." - then I was asked whether I might call the school White Hill was competing against to find out ..! And he sounded irritated when I balked . Ummm ; bad form White Hill .
My son attended White Hill and can say that we could have asked for nothing more in the way of a challenging curriculum combined with outstanding instruction (courtesy of a first rate teaching faculty). He now attends Drake with confidence and high optimism largely from the learning set he took with him from White Hill.
I love this school. In a word White Hill is the kind of public school I remember when I was in middle school. The kids are allowed to attend a safe comfortable hassle-free school environment that extracts all of their potential and as importantly dreams. The teachers are enthusiastic and truly care about teaching the children and preparing them for what lays ahead in life. The Principal is a true leader and leads by example. The school is located in possibly one of the most ideally locations possible and if pressed to offer a suggestion of improvement or con .. I do not know how perfection can be improved upon BRAVO!
One of the parents tuned me into this site (greatschools.org) and encouraged me to post here to get the word out on White Hill. Simply FANTASTIC!! FANTASTIC!! FANTASTIC!! This is a California public school who has gotten it right. The learning environment is healthy thought-provoking caring (strict when necessary) and successful! The children (all of them) thrive and excel at this exceptional school; and view education as a positive pathway to accomplish their future goals and aspirations. We moved here from Del Mar Middle School in the Reed (Tiburon) School District (one of the best nationally) and felt we may be doing our children a scholastic disservice boy were we wrong! Although Del Mar is hard to beat; however from what I have experienced and witnessed at White Hill the curriculum enthusiastic instruction led by spirited teachers enrichment and thought-provoking learning environment would rank this middle school every bit as accomplished as Del Mar. My wife and I are now completely settled in our decision to relocate from Tiburon to San Anselmo primarily due to the exceptional school system more specifically White Hill.
Not sure about the sour grapes post below however I can say that White Hill is an extraordinary progressive and challenging educational experience for my child. The faculty is first rate the class work challenging friendly and engaging students - this place is truly the enchanted villiage of schools. The best kept secret in all of Marin and want to make no secret that it is a great privlege and honor for our son to attend this wonderful school where he is receiving a first rate education! The only way to improve White Hill extend it to grades 9 through 12. I highly recommend this school for those wishing the best overall education experience for their children! My wife and I sleep better at night and smile more knowingour son attends this school. Any question ow we feel about this fine school? o)
The below poster motivated me to post as well. Moved to San Anselmo from Larkspur where my daughter attended Hall. She now attends White Hill Middle School and LOVES it! The Principal if focused no nonsense and goes above and beyond the call of duty to be helpful. The Teachers are simly amazing! My daughter is being challenged much more so than she was at Hall and more importantly. Her grades have improved immensely! White Hill has figured out how to cultivate young minds and prepare them for the future. The kids who attend are kind cheerful accepting and helpful. I love these kids! We enjoy each and every day our daughter attends White Hill and pray that when she graduates 8th grade Drake can pick up where White Hill left off. Let me end my saying that White Hill is in my opinion the finest middle school in Marin!
My child has had a wonderful experience at White Hill. The staff and administration have been caring and responsive. I'm not sure about the previous "teacher's" review - the principal has been there and hasn't changed for three years! I volunteer at the school "walking with wildcats" and the kids are remarkably well-behaved. This school deserves its high ratings. Beware negative ratings that may not be "real."
I worked at this school on a part-time basis and was placed in a class of wildly misbehaving 7th graders. I did not get any support from either the principal (who has since been replaced) the office staff or the teacher in adjacent 7th grade classroom who had amazingly little concern for their inappropriate behavior. The students threw food around the classroom used their Ipods without permission misused a computer in the room and even left the classroom without permission. The principal actually complained when I sent several of them to the office. It was among the worse behavior and the most lax administration attitude I have seen in many years of work in Marin County schools.
White Hill Middle School celebrates mediocrity. Visiting parents should visit an Honor Roll Assembly where more than half of the school is called up. Like Lake Woebegone every child here is above average. I just dread when my child faces real challenges. The office staff was notoriously unfriendly including yelling at my child but there was never any consequence. My child saw several feature length movies which seems like a waste of class time. There is so much being squandered at White Hill including my child's love of learning.
We moved to the school district because of the ratings but high test scores are not everything and I think sometimes measure the students' background not the quality of education. White Hill has been a horrible experience for my son. The administration seems much more concerned about defending against their reputation for drugs on campus than they are the actual students. Bullying is often a part of middle school life but is out of control at this school. My son's friend was afraid to get an average haircut! I was informed by the school counselor that another student refused to go to school because of being bullied. 3 years of teachers...there have been some good ones. Especially a 7th/8th grade History/English team. There have also been many clearly just passing the day. My son's math teacher asked the class what she could do better. The class does the EXACT same thing every day. My son answered that she could make it more fun. She responded that it was not her job to make math entertaining! Really? Because I'm trying to raise a life long learner and feel that is precisely your job. There are many ways to make math fun while practicing and learning the formulas.
I have a son enrolled at this school and so far him and his grades are fantastic at this wonderful school. Five stars!
White Hill is an outstanding middle school in every way. Parents who question its quality should spend some time on the campus. The teaching is top-notch the students are happy the enrichment program is the best especially when considering the small size and limited funding the school receives. Did you know the per pupil spending is far below average for Marin County? Did you know that the teacher salary schedule is 15th in the county? This school is an amazing package all-around and deserves the respect appreciation and acknowledgment of all that it offers our kids. The only drawback to this district is that a few vocal parents criticize without seeing the staff and students for what they are. My GATE kids have excelled and blossomed at this school thanks to the talented and dedicated staff. I'm proud that my kids go to White Hill.
The Principal deals with problems quickly and decisively and keeps the peace. My daughter loves her school and all her teachers and is doing very well there.
I'm an eighth grader at WHMS and I've had an over all great three years there. The councelors helped me through the toughest of times 75% of the teachers are a joy to be taught by and the kids 90% of the time get along. Sure there's bumps along the road ith 11-14 year olds but seriously what middle school is completely clique and bully free? I've really enjoyed my time at White Hill and i honestly reccomend it to anyone.
The teachers here expect you to bring your grades up with no help. and right when you are getting to the top the find something to discourage you.
The teachers are excellent. White Hill has great after school programs. At school they have a snack shop(with only heathy food). They have a basket ball team volley ball and soccer. I would suggest this school to everyone.
I think white hill is a great school my daughter is doing a great job in all her classes I think the teachers are great and they encourage my daughter to continue doing a great job overall White HIll is a great school!
