The teachers at this school teach very well and help their students stay on task. It is a wonderful school and all the students are friendly and talented! As long as you stay on task and try your best you will succeed in this school.

As a military family we chose to live in Northern Virginia among many options due to the quality of the schools. LMS proved to be very good ('11-'13)--with caveats. Strengths = diversity & quality of options in core elective and extra-circular classes and activities. We were very happy with our son's 7th grade experience. He was appropriately challenged in all of his classes & truly enjoyed playing in the band. We felt like his teachers did an outstanding job helping him & his classmates transition from elementary school. We were not as pleased with his 8th grade year. After a successful 1st semester we thoroughly briefed all of his teachers that he would require a watchful eye during my upcoming deployment. We expected some fluctuation in his grades. We did not expect to find out that our perma-honor roll student was failing several advanced classes on his midterm report (that's a red flag!). After conferring with the appropriate teachers & having our son draft his own "recovery plan" we expected more regular updates--and were completely surprised when he "relapsed" without further warning. Bottom line great options but in a big school parents must stay on top!

Excellent teachers who work with your kids in person via email correspondence and through volunteer time after school. The Music/Band program is phenomenal for a public school.

My daughter never had 5th grade math because she went from Spanish immersion to GT but Lanier Middle School is great because it helped my daughter get caught up in math.

My school is so awesome. We're actually allowed to chew gum! Everyone there is super nice and you can do everything!

I read some negative reviews from a former teacher and a parent here. Not sure if the teacher should express his/her grievances online and not sure if the parent has approached the school counsellor for whatever grievances he/she had.. My daughter will go to her final year at Lanier and until now our experience has been very good. The treachers are great and my daughter has improved so much academically. She enjoys everyday at school

I am a parent of now 3 Lanier students. All have had wonderful expereinces there. Clearly the teacher who commented is bitter about their separation from the school and really shouldn't air their dirties on such an open forum. If parents have issues go to the PTA go to the principal solve problems versus complaining online. Lanier administrators and teachers have always quickly responded to my correspondences and have assisted my children in reaching their fullest potential!

Im a student and let me tell you this... Its is amazingly fun and at the same time you are learning! i got better sols score than last year! yes there is fights but thats not the schools fault! so much awesome electives and after school activities! the teachers are so cool!

I am also a former teacher who agrees with the earlier suggestion that parents become very involved in their student's education if their child is to attend Lanier. Lanier has lost many good teachers over the past few years due in part to the lack of support from administration and the lack of focus and discipline of many of its students including those in Honors classes. There are some great teachers at Lanier and some wonderful students. However if I had a choice I would not send my child to this school due to the poor leadership and lack of real support for faculty both of which have a negative impact on teacher morale and the school's overall educational atmosphere.

Parents be very concerned and careful about your children attending this school. Always get involved with your children s education. Communicate with them often about the way they are treated especially by some teachers. I was a teacher here and I was surprised at what goes on and the abuse some kid suffer. Always ask questions and if you can avoid sending your child to this school. Trust me; I saw things every day that made me wonder why parents are not more concerned and involved in their child s educational environment.

My son attended Lanier and I was impressed with the attention and cooperation I received from the teachers and the administration. Dr Poole is always 'hands on' with the students and is presence is very visible. It was a positive for my son. My daughter will attend Lanier this year and I've already gotten good feedback from the teachers she will be having.

This school definitely changed for the better this school year. Dr. Poole is doing an amazing job and the renovations are almost complete. I am very satisfied with the programs and discipline at Lanier now.

I took my kids out of private school to send them to Lanier. What a mistake. Just try to get hold of a teacher or administrator. Impossible! It's always about the money at least at Lanier. I have pulled my children.
