I absolutely LOVE this school. Although it is a long drive for me it has been worth the time and $. My son (12) is in 6th grade and so happy. More importantly he went from being a mediocre student falling through the cracks at his public school to being a straight A student thriving and learning like a plant soaking up the attention and all it offers. Teachers are just wonderful. If your child is not reaching potential go for it! This is my way of giving back to this site which reviews inspired me to send my son here.

We have only been at this school since September but so far my child who is in 7th grade really loves it. The teachers are very creative and go out of their way to make learning interesting. The very small class size allows for more interactions by the students. The teachers are very involved with providing fun activities outside of school. And most of the in school special activities like the talent show Halloween party etc. are planned and run by students with support of the Parents' Association as requested. The Office Staff are so wonderful! And everyone Staff Teachers and other parents have been very welcoming. Just a completely humane environment for students.

Excellent school! High school emphasizes critical thinking research and strong writing in a nurturing and supportive environment. It is truly more like a small liberal arts college than a typical high school. Assessments are authentic and homework is useful -- not at all the typical overly burdensome busywork we were used to in FCPS. Best of all are the small class sizes and incredible teachers very knowledgeable interesting and caring people who will go the extra mile. Teaching is not just a job for them it is their passion. This is a great school for bright students who are uninspired by school or who need a smaller class size. It is amazing what a difference the right environment and teachers can make.

School was listed as one of top schools in Washington DC metro area. Does a great job in preparing kids for college and seeking excellence through an engaging curriculum.

A really different (maybe inspiring) school. Its embrace of 'Essential School' principles (Less is More; Authentic Assessment; A Collaborative Environment) makes it one of the most interesting successful and engaging schools in the greater Washington area. Parents should note that it is college prep and makes a real effort to match students well with colleges. In many respects the school itself is reminiscent of a small liberal college although in a more modest setting.

This website incorrectly states that the New School is a Christian school. It is not affiliated with any religious organization. Great small school. Casual environment where students are respected. Very interesting and unusual curriculum.
