California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

parent should be careful about MS Lane teacher of third grade. She verbally abuses children and humiliate them in front of other children. She is prejudiced about other races.

This school was good! I finished it a 2 years ago! Well the teachers were great but some of the kids behaved poorly and was an influence on other children. But overall I REALLY MISS IT!

My son just finished 6th year there (if you don't count pre-school) and it's been a positive experience for all of us. The environment is positive; most of the teachers have many years of expereince and really care about the kids. The only bad side is that the classes are getting larger - but that's a California phenomenon that seems to have no cure in sight...

Oak Chan is by far the best elementary school I've had the priviledge to send my children to. The teachers are caring and extremely talented. The principal is involved in every aspect of the school from administration to janitorial...very rare! The parents are involved in a way that is unsurpassed in my experience. I am looking forward to the next several years being part of this amazing community or teachers administrators parents and students.

Teachers for kindergarten classes are excellent. Mrs moffit in particular. Her patience and love for the kids is so refreshing. She cares and works with the kids/parents to improvde behavir and/or academics.

I am a former student of Oak Chan and I think overall that it is a great school. I liked every teacher I had and the have a good mix of discipline and fun. They always had a great music program. Parents were always helping out in the classroom. Each parent had a schedule of when it was their day to help.

This is a wonderful school. The teachers and administration are all about the children. There is a very active and well run pto and parent involvement is high; one of the main reasons for the success of oak chan's students. A sense of community is fostered through a wide variety of family events.

Oak Chan is a terrific school with experienced caring teachers. The principal is active and hands on with the kids. The PTO is fantastic with much parent involvement.

Oak Chan is an awesome school. There is alot of parent involvement. We have many programs available to our the children including music & art. Also some extracurricular activities including an after school homework club. The children also got to participate in a choir and talent show that was awesome. We also had some parents step forward this year to start a Lego Robotics team that ended up going to the First Lego League World Festival. We had one parent that stepped up and got the kids interested in running for feet charms. The key factors that I feel are important at Oak Chan is the cooperation between the teachers administrators parents and the students. That makes for a great learning opportunity for the students.
