If I could give this school negative stars it would get the maximum available. The administration feels free to tell you one thing do the opposite then deny ever telling you anything. My children feel as if they are in a prison style environment. If this is a nine rated school God help us.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL!!! Mr. Byrd is a dictator principal. My kids have not been happy at this school and struggle daily to meet the demands. Missed four days of school and are threatened with receiving F's for all classes excused or not. No matter what their actual grades are. Parent concerns are not treated with the respect they deserve. Kids are treated like elementary students and have no opportunity for socialization. Classes sizes are 30+ communication only happens when they want to inflict unjust punishments such as ASD for one missing or incomplete homework assignment. This is the worst school I have ever HAD to send my kids to!!! RUN! Don't walk away from this school!!!

This is an excellent school. Mr. Byrd is an exceptional principal and works hard to make sure that we the parents are up-to-date on whatever the school is doing. Their are also some very remarkable teachers like Ms. Standley and Mr. Toole. They are engaging and passionate about their jobs and I wish their were more teachers like them. Children need to be intrigued in order to be motivated. This takes a special kind of teacher to push students to success and they have those teachers at this school.

The Leadership (Principal Mr Byrd Asst Principal Mr Norris) are amazing leaders and mentors to the children. It's quite comforting to know Johnston County has strong leaders in our neighborhood school. When you see these Principals they are "ALWAYS" displaying a smile and a positive attitude. Mr Byrd sets high standards for conduct and it shows in the teachers staff students and the facility. Mr Byrd definitely understands the Be Know Do philosophy of leadership. The vast majority of the teachers are great! Here are a few teachers that my wife and I believe go above and beyond the call of duty (Mr Toole Mr Vines Mrs Avent and Mr Wharton). These teachers warrant praise for their positive contributions to our son's success. There's no question in our mind as to why Cleveland Middle School (CMS) continuously scores high marks for educational performance. We will miss CMS

After attending a local charter school for the last 3 years this is the first year that I did not have to teach my child at home. He was given good instruction in class at Cleveland Middle and just enough homework and projects to keep him fresh. I could not be happier with my decision to have my child leave the charter school and attend Cleveland Middle. His EOG scores are leaps and bounds above what they were for the last three years. What else can you ask of a school?

Horrible school!!!! The administrative staff are rude and cannot be trusted. I talked with them about a very private issue with my child and next thing I know it's all over and much worse to boot! It's a shame when your child doesn't even feel comfortable enough to go talk to anyone in that school. Children need to know that they have somewhere and someone to go to that cares for them and that they can trust. Example I was picking up my child early one afternoon for a dr appointment and there was another mother in the office and she had left before me. Eight members of the administrative staff carried on about their OPINION of this poor woman. That is a disgrace! No ifs ands or buts about it! Disgusting! Another day I was picking up my child for an appointment and hunted down on my way out the door to be questioned like a common criminal by one of the higher ups as if I'm going to take my child out of school just because I felt like it! ABSURD! On top of that she called the drs office to make sure of it!!!! These people are more concerned about control than anything! Truly is disgraceful! There's much more important matters for her to attend than to try and play detective! Sick!!

Yes!!!! Finally someone writes an honest review about this school. It's horrible!! I cannot wait for my child to be away from there. Not only is there a bullying problem that they're doing nothing about but the staff are major bully's themselves. They have absolutely no compassion and automatically think the worst! In MY opinion the administrative staff especially the guidance councelors principal vice-principal etc are all extremely prejudice and once they form their opinions about someone there's no changing it. They all walk around there with power and control in their heads and not even thinking or caring about the individual child themself. My child has been through so much badgering at this school that it's gotten him not even wanting to go. He loves school and all of his friends but is sick of being targeted by the faculty and staff. This last comment about this school is dead on. Test scores to fool the county into thinking they're doing their jobs! Faculty and staff extremely prejudice. They definitely have their faves! Can't wait for my child to be finished! Parents treated no better. Better watch out if your child's not perfect! I have a great kid! Very bright!

We recently transferred in from out of state and I am extremely disappointed by the overall school environment. Bullying is a huge problem and it is difficult to get staff or administrators to take answer basic questions with straight forward answers. Instead of encouraging parent participation they discourage it. We are currently looking into options to remove our child from this school. Beware ratings do not indicate the type of environment you may be getting into. They push for test scores but treat the children and staff as if it is a military school.

Cleveland Middle School has dedicated staff and has an firm mission to educate our children. The school is up to date on technology and guidelines. Teachers are top notch professionals that keep parents informed on progress and areas of concern. Then implement a course of action to give our children the best education possible. It's a wonderful school.

the teachers couldn't care less about you or their job the principal too. every where you look some one is getting violently bullied. this school is horrible. Academics are high because the only thing the board cares about is the EOG exams. if the student fails the EOG yet did perfect in class the student would fail because bad scores reflect poorly upon the teachers who hate the students anyway. if this website had negative stars that's what i would rate this school in.

This school doesn't even deserve honorable mention on a web site called "Great Schools". Bullying goes unaddressed parents have to pry information out of teachers principal is addicted to the rotary calling system likes to hear himself talk I guess. Lack of leadership lack of organization lack of follow through lack of professionalism. Principal can't even articulate. As with any school some (very few) of the teachers are dedicated and they are "great" however GREAT SCHOOL??? NOT!!!!!!!!!

Not impressed at all with the competence of the Principal and the Assistant. They make a lot of mistakes with paperwork. Document everything about your official interactions or it will be denied.

Very disappointed with this school. My highschooler went thru Cleveland Middle with no problems. My 7th grader last year was bullied the entire year and after I reported the incidents I have still to figure out what disciplinary actions were taken because that is confidential information and even though my child was the victim I am still not entitled to know this. Their zero tolerance policy is ridiculous because they don't adhere to it. As for the academics in this school they are just as bad. My child came home maybe 10 times the entire year with homework. My child is an A and B students and looks forward to being challenged but not in this school where the teachers spend alot of time disciplining children in the classrooms. There were so many behavior distractions for my child that my child became bored and even asked me to change schools to where there was some learning going on. This school and its administration is a big disappointment.

Glad we are leaving this school. Principal leaves much to be desired as he needs to undergo a statusectomy - STAT! Major attitude suggesting he's the only sheriff in town and yet so inarticulate. Definitely demonstrates the difference between a Boss and a Leader. Of the 4 teachers my child has 2 are committed 2 involved 1 just barely. Admin still treats the students as of they were 5 or 6 years old. Rated principal with one star as the evaluation won;t allow 1/2 or 0.

I have 2 kids that go to Cleveland Middle and it has been very unpleaseant. The Principal is not very professional nor does he seem well educated. They are very untrustful and dont make it a need to communicate to students or their parents. This will be the last year they will ever attend a Johnston County School. I would recommend parents send kids to Wake County Schools. Wake County is very involved with the parents and as well as concerned parents.

When i landed a job in the Pharma industry we relocated to the area...School district was why we chose to live where we do. Cleveland Middle is one of the best schools I have seen...especially concerning their attention to the individual childs needs. They have helped my son achieve strait A status by working with him and us and giving invaluable feedback as to how we can improve his education. A+ in my book!

The teachers are just great people overall. I know many of them personally and they are just some of the best people you could ever meet. Cleveland was structured and focused on excellence from the time I went and even now as my brother starts middle school. They don't put up with any nonsense bullying or intolerance like other schools in the area allow.

My son went to this school for 6th grade. We were not pleased with his experience. The principal didn't get involved with the bullying problems. In the end we pulled him out of this school.
