Regents Exams (RE)

In 2011-2012 New York used the New York State Regents Examinations to test high school students in English language arts, math, global history and geography, US history and government, living environment, chemistry, earth science, physics and several foreign languages. The results for English language arts, math, living environment, chemistry, earth science, physics, global history and geography, and US history and government are displayed in GreatSchools profiles. Students must take at least five Regents Exams in order to graduate. Scores of 65 and above are passing; scores of 55 and above earn credit toward a local diploma (with the approval of the local board of education). The goal is for all students to pass the tests.

I love the school. There are fights but they are mostly verbal. I think some drama is to be expected though when you put 1000 teengers in a building together for 7 hours. We have a lot of great sports teams and a ton of extra curriculars. Students can choose to take a lot of different AP dual credit and honors classes and there are many electives that cater to a wide variety of life and career interests. Most of the teachers I've had are great and they expect their students to work hard. If you aren't willing to put in the necessary time and effort they are not afraid to fail you which is how it should be since that's how the adult world works

At Gates-Chili children with behavioral problems are most often punished for having them. The staff and administrators are unwilling to work with students and develop anything outside of a 504. In other words they do the bare minimum required by law. I've seen incidences at GCHS of staff blaming the victim (student) for being bullied. I've also seen incidences of staff bullying students. The "higher-ups" do nothing to help the students but put a lot of effort into defending the teachers -- except for the teacher who was caught having sex with a 16 year-old Gates-Chili student. They actually fired him. (Which I'm sure saved more than a few jobs.) It's a very sad state of affairs when the teachers and administrators are more interested in their benefits (and retirement accounts) than they are in the children. The community itself is wonderful but if you have high-schoolers send them out of the district or home-school them. (The home-schooling program could use improvement such as allowing home-schoolers to participate in after-school academic clubs and sports programs and providing online courses.) Overall it's a nice place to live terrible public school system.

I am currently attending Gates Chili High School and I think that it is an amazing school to be attending. Although my school has a bad rep. because of a couple students the school is improving and getting much better. Their are a variety of classes for each individual to take depending on their likes and dislikes. The teachers are also very dedicated most teachers are willing to stay later in the night to help the students. The school does have drama and a few fights just as any school would. At Gates Chili High School the teachers allow you to explore and help you strive to be your best

Gates is not that great despite what people think. Teachers tell their students they are going to fail. They claim to "create the right condisions for learning" but they don't. They get rid of some of the best teachers and get fish. I hate it there there is way to much drama it is pathetic.

Great school so far... my kids love it and are getting a great education. Updated cirriculum computers counselors andteachers make it a nice place in a close knit community for my kids to grow. Athletics continue to improve with dedicated instructors.

If suburban kids want a feel of how a ghetto school is they can come to mine! Suburban kids and city kids alike in my school are constantly fist fighting (1 punch and you're out!) n drug dealin and the teachers r too afraid to do jack! This school has gotten insane is a ruff ruff school for the burbs. Kid from Chili
