The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See http://www.engageny.org/sites/default/files/resource/attachments/test_score_release_letter_to_parents.pdf from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes. In 2013-2014 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. At present 2013-14 results are available only for English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to mee

Overall HATE IT!. Teachers & administration have there hands tied and cannot do anything about the safety of the kids in school. School is full of Goth & Emo kids that disrupt the overall function of the school.

Well overall I've had a few problems with Gates Chili Middle School. I try as a parent not to be defensive but it's pretty hard when you have teachers counselors security etc drawing conclusions about your children. I am aware that during lunch break there are discussions about CHILDREN AND-their PARENTS that the staff needs to VERY CAREFUL who's LISTENING. Therefore when discussed other staff has drawn a conclusion. It is very important for our children to feel that they can be and do whatever they want not to decrease their self-esteem and belittle them in front of their peers. Wow I could go on and on! Parents Stay Involved.

In my personl oppinion this school is not very organized or very fair in their decisionss and they thing of it is they are starting all these rules on the last month of school without a really good explanation .

As a teacher I feel that safety is an issue in this district. Only so much can be done about this on the school's end. The faculty and staff works hard to make this as small an issue as possible. The quality of the teachers working here is high. Most teachers go above and beyond. Certain administrators are more effective than others but overall the job gets done. There are a great number of programs that students can participate in and most kids have the ability to succeed in their studies. gates-Chili is a good suburban school that can provide the right opportunities for those who want it but not the best in the Rochester area.
