Sacred Heart Glydon provides a wonderful community for our children to learn about academics and faith. The families are incredible and there is such a great sense of community at the school. Children are be taught to be kind and respectful of each other which is something not found in the public schools.

We do not recommend. The academics were average math being the weakest. The atmosphere was mostly negative with teachers regularly displaying sarcastic and derogatory behavior. There were a few exceptions. Bullying was an issue that drove away many families although there was supposedly a program in place. It wasn't enforced. After sending my children to a new school they finally met teachers who enjoy their job and respect the students.
Sacred Heart School in Glyndon Maryland is a wonderful faith-based community where the focus is on growing children spiritually and academically. Great teachers great families and a great community combine in a learning environment filled with technology extra-curricular activities computer and language classes art choir music and much more. My kids attend and they love it. My wife and I appreciate the extra attention and care of the teachers who go out of their way to help the students. Like any Pre-K through 8 Catholic school these days Sacred Heart School has tough issues to face. But this is one of the best schools around and will only get stronger. I highly recommend Sacred Heart School!
Sacred Heart has been a wonderful school for our twin daughters. We love that they are in an environment that encourages prayer and ethics as well as an above standard education. We as parents and they as students have enjoyed their teachers each year. Taking two languages each year religion classes with Masses great extracurricular programs and the family/community surrounding the school are all bonuses that we don't take for granted. The school can always use funds to assist with their computer programs gym and sports programs and of course their library all of which are considerably smaller than other schools I've visited. The school and students certainly make due and do well with what they have but I often wonder how much better they would do if they had more equipment space and books. While the teachers and staff are wonderful the space can always use improvement. Thanks very much for your consideration.
My husband attended this school as a child and we were thrilled to be able and send our 3 kids here as well. My kids love their school and I really can't imagine them going anywhere else. The school teaches respect kindness as well has having a strong reading program and wonderful specials. I appreciate the organization skills and thinking skills my kids have learned. My oldest daughter is attending junior high in the fall and can't wait to get into the science lab! I would like to see a little more computer skills being taught but I am very happy with majority of classes and teachers! I love that SHG still offers music( both vocal and instrumental) art and foreign languages for K on up. I feel the teachers are responsive to concerns and available for questions or conferences also very quick to let you know of any possible problems. I highly recommend this school ! It is in a nice area very clean with many modern facilities. There is also before and after school care available..
It's a good school in a nice area. The staff is friendly and the building and grounds are what you'd expect from school in this area. Tuition is high for what you get though. And the school spends more money on technology than they do teacher's salaries. This causes tuition to be very high. Overall it's a pretty good school just a bit high cost for what you get though.
My daughter just started this year and she loves it! It is a true blessing to have her wake up every morning excited for her day to begin. The teachers are wonderful and other students and parents are friendly and caring. There is definitly a family feel to the enviornment and I look forward to the next 13 years as my daughter and other children attend school there.
I have had four children attend Sacred Heart School. There are many wonderful aspects of this school. There are also some areas of great concern. The enrollment is down dramatically--this site lists 795 students but Sacred Heart currently has approximately 688 students. I attribute some decline to the economy but believe leadership at the school is a major problem. The school has recently discontinued its multi-child discount with very short notice to parents. As a parent of four and member of the parish I find this to be against basic Catholic principles. I am saddened by the changes at this school over the past few years. There are many dedicated caring teachers at Sacred Heart. There is also an involved core group of parents working hard to make Sacred Heart a special place. I feel torn as we have been a part of this school for many years but changes must be made before I could honestly give the school a higher rating.
As a graduate of Sacred Heart and now a parent I have nothing but high praise for the school. As the parent of a first grader and soon to be kindergartener we have been welcomed in all aspects of the community. Both of our children also play soccer and the school and athletic program are great. Unfortunately not every parent is going to be happy about everything but I believe that the school is worth every penny!
Our family has enjoyed a long legacy with Sacred Heart Parish and School spanning two generations. We are proud to call SHG our home - there is a real sense of community here. We are confident that God will guide us through these challenging economic times and enable the administration and board to make the best decisions for our children and families. God Bless Sacred Heart.
We have a slew of children at Sacred Heart School so we are frequent flyers. I think that speaks volumes to the successful experience we are having at Sacred Heart School. We chose Sacred Heart School primarily because of its mission of a strong commitment to our children's Catholic faith formation secondly for its dedication to academic excellence and finally for encouraging service to others and living the message of Jesus. We feel our family is welcomed encouraged and loved at Sacred Heart where It feels more like a loving family than a school. From an economic standpoint we feel we receive a phenomenal return on our investment. Our children will be well prepared for solid Catholic spiritual life and a successful transition to any high school our children choose to attend.
Sacred Heart is a great school with dedicated teachers respectful and well-mannered students and lots of parent involvement.
Over the last few years we've had 3 of our 4 kids attend school here so far. We love the sense of community in the families we often socialize with at events after school on the playground or while volunteering at school. As a mother I love getting to volunteer in the school with my younger kids in tow and see my sons during their day. My sons love their teachers this year and have both learned so much! The Kindergarten recipe for reading really kicked off reading well for our boys! My 2nd grader understands the power of the Holy Spirit because of what he learned in the religion part of his curriculum. There are so many other learning programs too. They both play Sacred Heart soccer and basketball. SHG even has a boy scouts troop meeting at the school. Our family spends most of the day on campus of the school and parish because we love the people and the activities offered. Although there is always room for the school to improve I've learned that there are committed parents and administrators and school board members who are too. Together we can accomplish anything! If you are looking for a good academic education for your kids Sacred Heart fits the bill.
SHG School is a good Catholic school. I have enjoyed sending my kids here over the last 5 years. One thing I love about SHG is the close knit community. Most parents get along well are happy supportive and loving Christians. Our enrollment has dropped with economic woes and a low morale but a group of devoted parents has stepped up to work towards increasing school morale increasing fundraising and to market our school so that we can fill our empty seats. Our children are doing well despite the above. My children have learned so much. I have been very happy with most of the schools' teachers but not all of them. As with any school this can improve. I love the range of special programs - foreign language art computer music gym and more! I feel my children with some teachers have received a deeply rooted religious education. I would love it if the kids went to mass weekly rather than just monthly though. Our administration is learning to respond to parents concerns and requests. As long as the school board and administrators continue to listen and adapt SHG school will improve and thrive! The kids would give the school 5 stars! They love it!
I have been blessed to be teaching at Sacred Heart for the past 11 years. My youngest daughter started at Sacred Heart in 2001 in the 4th grade and I have no doubt that her confidence and love for school had everything to do with her Sacred Heart experience. As a parent I couldn't ask for more caring competent teachers. The many outreach programs made her aware of the importance of helping those less fortunate. My daughter's friends were wonderful and she maintains many of these friendships presently. Sacred Heart prepared her for a challenging high school both academically and socially. As a teacher I am so proud to be part of a school community that has such amazing children at all grade levels. It is a testament to the Sacred Heart families who have raised such compassionate kind and helpful children. At least once a day I am awed and humbled by acts of kindness toward one another .My colleagues make it a joy to come to work each day. There is an air of support and dedication for the school and one another that I am immensely grateful to be part of. I would highly recommend Sacred Heart School as both a parent and a proud Sacred Heart teacher.
We came to Sacred Heart about 6 years ago and couldn't be happier. My children and family were immediately welcomed to the SH community and feel that way to this day. My children are provided with a top notch education with all of the latest technologies as well a daily reinforcement of good Catholic values. Sacred Heart students and staff are compassionate & caring behavior we find important in a school environment. I as a parent always have opportunites to get involved and be a part of my children's important school years. Higly recommend to any parent looking a for a private school.
As an elementary teacher in the public school system Scared Heart is a lifesaver to my family. For those of you complaining about Sacred Heart come sit in my classroom for one day. Many of my students are extremely rude and disrespectful. When I ask my sons if these behaviors occur at Sacred Heart they say absolutely not. The students in my own class generally read and know math far below what students at Sacred Heart do at a much younger age. My oldest is leaving Sacred Heart soon with a merit scholarship and acceptance into the honors program at a wonderful private high school so students are definitely prepared for higher level education. When I attend Catholic Schools Week I actually cry because I am so happy that I am able to send my children to Sacred Heart. They LOVE their school. Secondly I am sad that I can not teach at Sacred Heart myself. To teach students who love to learn is a dream of mine. Financially I can't afford to work in the private schools so I am so grateful that the teachers at Sacred Heart are willing to do so. Again to those complaining go visit your local public school for one day and see if you feel the same afterwards! I doubt you will!
I have been sending my daughter here since 2nd grade (she is now in 6th). I can't say enough about much we love this school! To be honest- I did not know much about the Catholic school system- we were coming from the local private school community. I will never go back to the other private school system! Sacred Heart families are welcoming and so kind. The kids have great values and they treat each other with respect. The administration is open to family opinions and the teachers are very attentive to the children as well as the families- It has been such a fantastic environment for my daughter. I only wish they went through 12th grade!
It s not a secret that the economy s impact has minimized faculty raises and that has undoubtedly been difficult for our teachers. Yet year after year teachers remain. They are a highly educated experienced group of people some teachers have been there for close to four decades they could easily get higher paying jobs at other schools. They stay at Sacred Heart. Five minutes in a classroom will show you that the teachers love the children that they teach. They believe in the future of these precious young ones and they value their place in the school that will help them achieve. The sheer number of faculty members who have stayed year after year in good times and in bad should testify to the quality of education that your child will receive in the classroom. For the money you pay Sacred Heart will give your child an exemplary education in a caring environment with the most dedicated teachers I ve ever seen.
In spite of what angry parents may tell you about the administrative side of this school let me tell you what this school produces. Sacred Heart boys will hold the door for you even if they are running late. Their pants will be up around their waste and their shirts will be pressed. The young ladies at this school know how to sit properly in a skirt and do not focus on looking like there are heading out for a night on the town . These children are being given the gift of good common decency and their manners and good citizenship skills are being reinforced every day. I once saw a commercial featuring a public school teacher during last election where the teacher stood up and said it was not her job to teach values. Well my friend it is most certainly the job of the teachers at Sacred Heart to teach values and it shows. Where else but at a Catholic school will you have a teacher sit and pray with an anxious child before a test or other troubling time?
