If you want your child to have a rigorous curriculum that can compete with any other state then Bayou View Elementary is the school for you. The entire faculty and staff care about their students. They build relationships with the children so that the students want to come to school each day and learn. The administration is very approachable and has an open door policy. They encourage parents to visit frequently. The parental support is fantastic. I have been in several states and this school is the very best. If you want a top-notch education for your child--with people who care then BVE is for you. Contrary to an earlier post we feel a part of the BVE family even though we are not wealthy. The administrators and teachers care for the students no matter what income bracket or race.

School has great teachers that care and also excellent parent participation and strong leadership. They also have challenging academic programs along with outstanding music programs.

I have to agree 100% with the last comment/rate posted on here from Oct. 2008. I am from the Gulf Coast and recently moved back here from another state and I did a ton of reasearch on the schools in the area. I saw that BVE was a 'great school' actually they are the '#1 rated elem. school' in MS. My daughter attneded a very good private school where we used to live. I put her there to give her a great foundation which she did get. Upon moving back to MS I noticed that she was ahead of the children in her K class even the teacher told me she was on a 1st grade level. I spoke to the teacher and principal on several occasions and they did not want to move her. They also tested my child with out my knowledge for her skills.

I sent my daughter to private preschool trying to give her a jump start on her education. When she started Kindergarden she was ahead of the other students. Things they were learning now she mastered last year at 4. They wouldn't test her or move her to a more advanced class. I ended up having to take her out to home school her because she was developing problems caused by her boredom in school. We are moving to South Carolina where they test their kindergardeners. There are way to many kids being labeled troubled do to their advanced skills. I wasn't at all happy with the way the staff handled our situation or my repeated attempts for them to sit down with her and test her skills. This school may be one of the best in Mississippi but compared to other states I've lived in it's one of the worst.

Wow where do I start! BVE is a great school.I have two children at BVE and 1 has been there for all six years. The councelor Mr. Barnes is wonderful. He is fun and energetic and the kids love him. My child has ADHD and struggled in school but he is on his way to making the honor roll. I could not ask for a more supportive staff. I communicate almost weekly (sometimes daily) with the my children's teachers. The door at BVE is always open. The acedemics teachers and parent involvement are top notch. As far as a previous comment about race and money posted my children are biracial and middle income and that has never affected how we are treated. Parent involvement is expected! Don't come to BVE if you just want to send you children to school and forget about it. Homework starts in kindergarden!

This school is top notch. There is a great core of teachers and staff in place and it is a wonderful setting. They provide a great moral upbringing for their students. Mrs Wilks is great at all levels . They also have a great counselor there He is young and energetic. My children come home begging me to make them see the counselor. The kids really like him there. BVE is just great all together.

There is too much to say about Bayou View. My daughter attended for two years before we moved out of state. The children have different activities everyday of the week between music art etc. There is a homeroom parent for each class. That is a parent who spend extra time helping the teacher on a regular basis. We also got invitations for PTA holiday festivals track meets etc. They had things like bike day where parents could come and bring their kids bike and watch obstacle course run. They had sack lunch day where you could bring your whole family and have a big picnic at school. Parent participation is huge! Children tested on reading on computer and had reading program where they advanced into different levels. They have a good after school care program available.

Three of my children have attended BVE. One is now in BVMS. Two are still at BVE. I am very impressed with the education my children are receiving. I feel blessed that my children are able to go to school at BVE. When my eldest son first attend in 1999 I saw first hand the high interest the teachers and staff placed on giving the students the BEST education possible. Thanks BVE. Glenda Shelby

My Children are military children and we've traveled alot. And I can honestly say this is by far the best school I have ever had the pleasure to send my boys to. Everything about this school is every parents heart desire You couldn't ask for a better school. The Staff the parents and community put the Capitol I on the word Involvement. This school should be the model for all learning environments. The teachers are so nurturing. Every classroom is inspired by learning. This school offers whats called Parent University where you learn how to teach you child math reading ect. on their level. There are no slackers in that school. What more can I say. Besides Bayou View is an Excellent choice for any family!

BVE was a pretty good school though race could influence some children's education for as teacher acceptance. If your child is well mannered preferably wealthy then your child has a better chance of success.

Wow! Where do I begin Bayou View Schools are the best. I attended BVE & BVMS(BVJH). My husband and I sold our house in July and moved HOME for the new school year. You see we lived all of twenty miles from Gulfport but for me it was a million miles from home. Bayou View is a comminity like no other. Everyone works together. Teachers parents police local churches...everyone's heart is true and eyes are open. This is strong mix for well cared for children. My daughter is in kindergarden. She is so excited about her teacher and all of new friends. It will be at least twenty years before she realizes just how lucky she is. P.S. Most of the teachers grew up here or have choose to raise there children here. Proud parent/student Kay McGuire

We moved here at the end of March this year. My children were in an Alabama school that I did not like at all. We lived in a very nice area and I was told that the school was great. It was not! The staff were rude and did not make parents feel welcome at the school at all. When we moved here and I went to register my 2 children at BVE I felt so welcomed! I feel so good to leave my children in the hands of the BVE staff. Thankyou BVE Staff for making a mother happy! Keep up the great work!

I love Bayou View Elem. My daughter is in 5th grade there and she does quest lab and everything. I am a very proud parent of a Bavou View student. Even though this is her last year here she will still be in Bayou View Middle School. I love BVE and BVMS!
