California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

I am very surprised Zela Davis has 4 stars. The school is over crowded which adds to the teachers work load/stress level. Poor 2nd graders don't have lunch until around 12pm. So they and I complain of being hungry by 11am. It's unacceptable when you see a teacher complaining about a 4th greade student behavior in front of the student staff principal and other students.

I USE TO REALLY LOVE ZELA DAVIS. i THOUGHT MY SON WAS DOING REALLY GREAT AND HIS GRADES WAS EXCELLENT. HE WAS ON THE TOP CLASSMATE LIST. UNTIL WE MOVED TO MORENO VALLEY AND MY SON WAS WAY BEHIND IN HIS CLASS. HIS READING WASN'T AT THE LEVEL IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE.

Zela Davis is a very good school. Both of my children have attended Zela Davis since kindergarten. The majority of the are GREAT educator and really care for the children. Zela Davis also give monthly workshops to keep parents involved with their child's curriculum. Last but not least Zela Davis scored highest on CST in the Hawthorne School District in 2009!!!!

I know and feel tha zela davis is very good school because my daughter has been going there since the 1st grade. I love the parent and teaher involvement that I have because it keeps me on top of daughter and what she is doing in school....i think that parent need care more about their children education and get involve with the teacher.

This school is not conducive to the learning process. The student merely are taught what them need to know to take the district and state test but they do not learn. They expect all the students to learn on the same level which in my opinion and in the opinions of other parents is higher that what it should be. Students are made to learn the information they are not supposed to learn until the following grades. Who ever heard of kinder and firstgrader learning algebra. This school is not very excepting of students with disablities either. Parents of students with disability have to fight to hard for the basic needs of their children. The only saving grace of this school is the faculty and staff. Who try there best to help the student succeed dispite the growing push for high test score at the expense of learning.

my son has been at Zela Davis for a few month now and so far this school has shown me that they care about their students. They are trying to do as much as they can to make sure our children succeed.

I work at Zela Davis Elementary School and with the new changes namely the principal things have not been the same. This has hendered the teachers ability to teach and the students ability to learn.

Overall Zela Davis is a good school. The teachers do an excellent job and it's a safe environment. However I do feel that more extra curricular activities should be added. There should be more school performances for parents to attend and for the kids to show off their hidden talents.

Zela Davis is a school in a location with few resources. However the teachers are working hard and the children want to learn. Their are parents that are not as involved as they should be but overall they want the best for their children. The district does hinder the teachers and is not very supportive of the teachers at times.

Zela Davis is a great school. Both my daughters attended and 1 is actually still there. The curriculum is very stimulating and they start with the kindergarden class. They're coming out of kindergarden knowing how to read and tell time. The parent involvement is high. They inform and invite the parents to everything. They keep the kids very busy and leave no time for fooling around. They also start them on computers in kindergarden. They take test and do all sorts of things. Zela Davis is giving the kids a good head start to whats to come to them in the future.

My daughter has atteneded Zela Davis for the last three years. What I like most is the constant communication all the teachers so willing give.I am a single mother and I am not always able to go to the school at the drop of a hat but my daughter's teacher sends notes e-mail and phone messages to keep me informed. It is nice to see that there are still good teachers who care about their students on a personal and professional level.
