The staff and teachers at Achilles are wonderful. I have a child with special medical and educational needs and they have bent over backwards to ensure my child is set up in the best learning environment with 100% support.

My daughter has been at Achilles Elementary school since kindergarten and is now in the 5th grade. It saddens me to say that she will be leaving this school and moving onto middle school next year. The entire staff of Achilles are hands on with the kids as well as the parents. In all the 6 years of being at Achilles I have never once encountered a teacher or other staff member that we did not agree with or dislike. My daughter has always struggled in reading and writing and gotten extra help but because of the teachers attention to see that she struggles much more than she should have to she is now an IEP student and will get even more extra help that she needs. If you want a hands one good elementary school this is the place for your child. They once a month have some kind of function for the kids to have fun.
My daughter has gone to Achilles for the last 2 years. She is in the ipop preschool program. Ms.Lynette and Ms.Julie are wonderful teachers who care deeply about the progress of the students. She has learned so much and truly loves going to school to learn. All of the staff is friendly and polite. The principal makes an extra effort to greet each child and show them the attention they deserve. She starts kindergarten next year and I expect she will continue to have a fantastic experience!
My son has gone to Florida schools K-2 another VA school for 3rd grade and started Achilles in the 4th grade. He has always been a smart kid but has had many behavior issues due to ADHD Asbergers and Anxiety. Achilles is the first school he has gone to that he has not had ANY problems. I feel it is because of the smaller student body teachers and principals know each kid by name and it is obvious that this team of staffers truely love and care about each and every students success! He is now going into the 5th grade at Achilles and I am confident he will have another great year! I just pray middle school will be the same!
Faculty/Staff TRULY care for these children and their education.
I love that there are monthly (if not more) activities for the parents and children to become involved in together. Teachers are very friendly SOL scores are high and staffers know ALL children by name. I love the closeness of this community driven school.
My son has been a student at Achilles for the last four years. His fours years there have all been wonderful. The small class size is great. He had perfect scores on all his SOL's along with most of his class. Great teachers clean building!
This school needs a major over-haul. The teachers lack motivation and enthusiasm and many of the parents refuse involvement with their children. We are not sure how long we will be here particularly since Achilles is taking on students from a nearby elementary school under renovation. I would love to see more emphasis on developing well-rounded and bright children not high SOL scores.
Last year was my son's first year at Achille's. I was not overlly impressed as he had a wonderful head start teacher that was hard to live up to. This year he is in first grade and I'm pleased to say that his teacher has done a wonderful job. My son is reading above and beyond what I could ever imagine. The response from the teacher is immediate. If ever a problem or a question I feel that she is always there to answer it.
My experience has been a great one. The staff has been great especially Ms. Wiggs my daughter's k teacher. My daughter began the year speaking and reading in Spanish. It is amazing how well she is speaking and reading in English. The county was not prepared for an esl student so they placed her with Ms. Wiggs who can speak Spanish. Next year the county will be more prepared because they are hiring an esl teacher.
