California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

All three of my daughters are either going to this school currently or have gone to this school and I can tell you honestly that it's great. The staff really tries to make it fun and safe. Teachers in general are overworked and underpaid but these folks still give it their all everyday! No school is "perfect" but we have been happy over the 13 years in the district.

I have been a parent of several HES students for the last 12 years and still have a few more to go before my youngest moves on to RMS. I love the teachers and appreciate their hard work and dedication to all of the students. They truly care about the whole student and work hard to help them grow emotionally as well as intellectually.

This is a great school. I attended from kindergarden up until sixth grade and the staff is very friendly and caring towards the students. I would recommend this school.

Regards comment of Jul 22 from other parent. I'm a parent of those children who get awards and I'm far from helping in the school I do it when I have the time I have a full time job and one part time but I'm behind my children's homework or studies it's very hard and sometimes I only want to sleep but our kids are the future so we must start at home. The school offers after school program to help those that are behind or for working parents. The SCHOOL IS GOOD. We have a new principal and the most important new superintendent hopefully we will see results soon with him. We need a PTA teacher and gym-place where the children can do exercise without being in the cafeteria when outside is impossible for the heat the wind etc. The school district has portable classrooms that they can use for it. But one of the most important things I considere we need is add in the lunch salads and fresh fruit as part of daily basics so if a kid or employees want to have a salad instead of regular lunch they can. They can start with 10 a day and go from there it's not excess cost and will give them an idea where to go from there. Hopefully the district pays attention to this.

Overall this is a really good school. They have great teachers and staff. The principal for the past three years is great. There is a lack of arts music and fieldtrips in the last two years but maybe their budget has been cut dramatically. It is very safe and they communicate very well with parents. The only negative thing I can say is you tend to see a pattern with the awards given out to students whose parents are heavily involved in the school. I'm sure they are great students and I'm sure it does have alot to do with the parents involvement. However not only does it make parents who work fulltime jobs outside of the home feel like failures when those parents who are at the school everyday get praise and called favorites it makes us wonder are the awards truly earned or are they given out because their parent is a "favorite".....

My daughter just started and we LOVE her teacher.. Mrs.Pace is great... have had zero problems.. Everyone seems to work as a team.. She loves it hope I can say that a few years from now..

I have a child that has been attending this school for over 4 years. I am very diappointed with the extracurricular activities; there is none. I assumed over time this school would grow and offer more. Not yet. I now have a second child that is in k. I love his teacher as he does too. However my 4th grader does not like this school. He accually would rather go to a privite school where it is more challenging and has more to offer in sports and music.

This is the first year my daughter has attended this school. I'm extremely disappointed that it has no music art or instrumental program especially for the older grades. I'm happy with my child's teacher however the communication b/t the school & parents is virtually nonexistant. Whenever you ask a question it seems like nobody knows the answer & you end up having to talk to the district office to finally get the answer for even a routine question.

I have a child that attends this school and I could'nt be happier with staff and especially the excell program ! I paid for private school in the past and this school standards are just as high or even higher ! Thanks...

I have two children that are new to this school and since day one they have been bullied. the worst part about it is that when a teacher sees it they just say stop and walk away calmly. The principal just say I will deal with it later. for the last five months nothings changing and my kids hate this school. its a shame that a grown man can not handle children or everyday problems.

The students have well-qualified teachers especially the veteran teachers. The only critique would be that there is not a music/instrumental program which I believe would truly benefit the kids at Helendale. Parents are very supportive and financially ready and willing to provide the resources needed to have a great music program which the school lacks.

I think that this school has a great staff. The parents are supportive.

My son has attended this school for three years and has been blessed with wonderful teachers who care about him and his well being. However the principle tends to be overbearing in his dicipline by choosing petty issues to complain about to the parents. I feel he makes the school less effective in the children's education and self esteem.

The quality of academics is great. The Availability of music arts and other extracurricular activities is almost non-existent. The level of parent involvement is high but not very organized well at all at the school. More could be done using this resorce.

I have 4 children from the age of 4 to 14. My children love this school and so do I. High academic achievements great teachers and a lot of parental involvement. We've had a run of great luck with this school my children are excelling and get great grades. Also we are in a very 'safe' enviroment unlike other areas 20 miles away.
