California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. I don't uderstand how anyone can listen to bitter people that make up lies because thay did not like going somewhere for school. Maybe your parent mad you go Encore like my parents did! At first I hated it but once I got into what they had to offer I was glad I was there. Don't listen to anyone that will say your credits won't transfer or you can't go any where but a Jr. College. That's just lies I am graduate from Encore high school attending UCR and my friends are attending UCLA UCI and more. Thanks for reading

I was a former student of Encore. First you are sadly mistaken if you believe the glowing reviews posted here and on other sites. The teachers constantly loose classwork and many do not have the credentials to teach. The school is run by two people Ambassadors and those who support the school (a.k.a brown-nosers). Many of my friends who did graduate from Encore are having trouble having their credits transferred. The whole "no homework" pitch? Don't believe it. The teachers overload the students with homework essays and random assignments. To sum it up "NOT AS ADVERTISED".

My son has been going to Encore since he was in 7th he is now going into 10th grade. He loves it. I think it is a wonderful school for children who love the arts. My younger sin is extremely excited to attend his 1st year this fall.

My school is great. They don't punish kids who like academics that review is crazy. We do all kinds of things to help improve academics and make it fun. We had Mickey's Math Challenge last year to make the basics fun and I know teachers who have spent time helping kids with college questions and issues. I've had one or two teachers who aren't that great but they don't last long. My Jr. High had a LOT of teachers who shouldn't have been teaching and bullies too. The kids who WANT to be here are great. The ones who don't are a pain in the ass. I think you could say the same about most schools. A few try and ruin it for everyone. I LOVE this school and my experience here. I get on the bus really early and sometimes don't get home until 8 or 9 during a performance blackout. I'm tired but I get my work done or I can't perform and I love what I am able to do. Heck kids here can juggle and ride unicycles take pictures or be in a band-all in a school day. Where else can you have the freedom to learn these kinds of things? Haters don't hate- this is a great school.

I'M a FAN! My daughter has had an GREAT experience here. The ARTS & ACADEMICS teachers are FANTASTIC! Her elementary school was terrible / her Jr. School was "bully central"- My daughter started in her 9th grade year & is graduating this yr. She's an A/ B student with a LOVE for theater & music. I understand that "disgruntled" parents are sour if their "little darlings" could not keep up with Encore's standards.Encore expects much from the kids. In turn they GET a lot. Some of my daughter's friends at other schools constantly say how terrible the bully situation is at their schools. NOT at Encore. The kids are ARTS kids according to my daughter... very accepting of each other. We will be applying to UCLA UCR & Redlands this year. I'm a doctor (not that that matters) BUT I would NOT allow my daughter to attend ANY school without researching the academics. ALL Academic teachers are credentialed the school is WASC accredited and A-G approved for college transferability so yes they are top notch in my opinion. Finally when we arrived at Encore my daughter was timid and shy. She has confidence & poise thanks to Encore. NO other school in the HD offers what they do.

Two children of mine attended Encore and many of my friends' kids have attended since its inception. WHAT ENCORE DOES RIGHT - Arts elective offerings are diverse unique and many - Daily study hall - Improvements can be seen each year in the campus and operations - The shows are completely student staffed and are amazing - Some of the staff members are incredible with the kids - The student comaraderie is good with little conflict WHERE ENCORE FAILS - Labeling "College Prep" is stretching it. Even the teachers' kids go to community college or low ranking art trade schools - Counseling is horrific. Calls voicemails emails nor being physically present gets you any face time with a counselor - Programs and students are favorited to the extreme - The staff put out flyers with the most terrible grammar run-on sentences incomplete information and many of the staff are simply crass and rude. In fairness some wear far too many hats to do their jobs properly - Drama production rehearsals practice terrible time management with the kids - Several seemingly impeccable arts instructors find employment elsewhere after a short stay - Graduation chord requirements are murky at best

Encore High School is a horrible school that sets your kid up for community college at best. Very few of the courses are actually applicable at 4 year colleges and universities. The counselling department is awful. The counselors are impossible to get a hold of whether you are a student or parent. Legal documents are lost constantly and the blame always lands on the student. Many of the teachers (past and present) are not even accredited to teach. The campus is constantly in a state of disrepair many of the classrooms do not meet basic safety and fire codes. The favoritism at this school is ridiculous if you child does not become best friends with the teachers and faculty on a very unprofessional level your student will receive no guidance and no help in the classroom. The school likes to boast of it's accepting atmosphere but many students face daily discrimination just by the faculty and administration alone. The only remotely redeemable aspects of the school are the vast number and variety of classes to choose from and the high percentage of student and parent involvement. If you want you child to get a sufficient and fulfilling education DO NOT send them to Encore.

My granddaughter wants to attend this school and I have my concerns. I have heard from a few parents that their child was bullied and the non of the staff was concerned so now 2 of the parents are now home schooling the other attends another school. I have also heard that if your child attends high school at Encore and you have to move and go to another school the credits they have earned can not be transferred to the new school. Does anyone have any insight on these issues.

I like that there are a lot of different conservatories to do and the teachers/staff help students also. Encore is not perfect but it is a great unusual preforming school to go to.

As concerned parents we want to share our experience with ENCORE JR SR HIGH SCHOOL. Our son is 17 and has been an over-achiever his whole life. Last year he took a few classes at Options because he had the idea to graduate early. He later decided against that idea. Encore went ahead and registered him as a senior in October 2013 without informing my wife and I or my son. We just found this out a few weeks ago. They are refusing to change this situation even though he has begged to take extra academic classes so he can experience his 'actual' senior year with his friends. We are angry and feel robbed of celebrating his final year of high school. He's missed out on senior pictures prom being a senior in the yearbook and all senior activities regarding college walk throughs and missed the deadlines to apply for student loans. In our opinion NO ONE SHOULD ENROLL THEIR STUDENT AT ENCORE HIGH SCHOOL... a school that penalizes a kid for being intelligent and over achieving their whole life. We truly feel this is a personal vendetta against our son. Please pass this info forward.... Kids should be rewarded for hard work not punished.

This school is ran by unorganized unprofessional people. "Owners" do not know how to manage a school properly nor do they have the kids futures in mind either. The lack of professionalism is ridiculous. This school has a quick turn around rate for teachers that are employed which leaves the kids without proper guidance. Treat the teachers better and with respect!

Kudos to Encore for the new methods of communication with parents! I love the newsletter and the new e-version. With a busy family and a busy life it is hard to keep up with all that is going on at school- and to ensure that our students make the most of the opportunities presented to them. Keep up the good work!

After 3 schools ENCORE is it! Finally a school that cares and gives kids real intensive performing arts training! IM VERY HAPPY! My kids love it!

This is a good school for the most part. Not run very well. I don't think the current administrator has the proper credential. The family that started the school is busy starting a new school down the hill. The Ambassador program thta was once reserved for the best of the best has become a total joke. They will not be doing any extras or touring this year. I personally feel that once the owners daughters graduated they are not interested in this campus any longer. My child will not be returning next year. There is so much favoritism its hard for your child get good roles. I have personall heard the owner talk about students in a negative way actually stating she felt some kids had mental issues. I was happy for several years but I am now ready to move on. This is the school like it in the HD but its not worth it. Take your child down the hill and truly invest in their future.

Horibble school. RAN by 2 people who think they know everything in the world and just care about money. Waisted 3 years going there and now because of them im behind in HS good luck with your smelly hallways. I remeber everyday a kid will signup for school the next week you'll never see them again.

This is an awesome school for the area. I would have to say one of the best. The best part about it the kids get college credit for the high school classes that they take. That is the biggest perk.

I have always believed that a stable learning environment through the Arts is ideal for a great education. I have four kids that attend this school two of which have been here since it first opened. My kids love this school and their grades are so remarkable testament that Encore's Curriculum works. One of my kids is autistic and I am very impressed with how attentive and compliant the school has been to his needs. I couldn't have picked a better school to place him in. The teachers are dedicated and pride themselves on creating a great learning environment for the kids. It's not perfect but then again nothing in life is. Most of the negative reviews I have read here seem to come from disgruntled employees and the parents who are complaining do so about the Dean of schools. Yet you're forgetting that its the teachers that "teach" your children not the Deans. For this school to have only been opened 6 yrs. I feel they have come along way not to mention that Encore High School of the Performing Arts scored a 793 API for 2013 and it is the highest scoring high school in the HUSD and the Second highest scoring high school in the entire High Desert. That alone speaks for itself.

As a former employee who suffered at the hands of the deans I strongly urge parents to find other options for their students.

I have been very impressed with the level of caring by the teachers and their willingness to help a student achieve success. The school fosters an environment where the kids work hard to learn and perform. It would be wonderful to see this school get a real theater but they do a great job of making do with what they can dream build or get donations for. We just saw Ghost Train and were so impressed by the team of young students who were serving dinner for this Dinner Theater show. There is something great about a student getting up on his own at 5am to spend a long day at school get home at 8pm because they are involved in a show and they are HAPPY to do it again the next day! The school still needs work in the organization area and making sure things go out in a timely manner and all staff are the same page but that is true of many places and I know that every year there are more and more improvements. Kudos to Encore for keeping my kids excited to be at school.
