"Ignorance and hubris is a dangerous combo".. defines the current princliple perfectly (awful and staff doesnt like her) but what makes this school run smoothly are the very competent tenured teachers who know the students well. Very active caring parents (possibly to a fault) raise significant funds to keep the school in top techinal shape. Have three kids that have gone through. Parents have a rep. as petty and gossip which could be worse than other schools. Overall though great experience. Arguably the best elem. school in town but all of D181 needs to revamp gifted program. Hopefully this school will get a break and get a good principle!

The teachers are very dedicated and competent. However the new principal is in way over her head. Ignorance and hubris is a dangerous combination. There are quite a number of parents that are withdrawing their children from Monroe because of the difficulty dealing with her.

Monroe school is one of the best public scools in the state in my opinion. Each child gets special attention weather it's a dissability or the childs not being challenged enough. It really involves the child in art P.E. and other subjects like music. The school has many saftey precautions but lets the children have lot's of fun at the same time. The teachers are well trained and are loved by all of the students. The kids are allowed to walk or ride their bikes to and from school. They can also be picked up to leave school for lunch. In the district there is a gifted education program and gifted-talented programs in every school. There is a P.T.O. program that involves the parents and lets the kids be amazed by different preformers with all diferent talents such as a pro yo-yo guy dancers and a man from the special olympics. A GREAT school!
