My Notes

A country estate close to the Atlantic Ocean and beach with this amount of acreage and access to the Lowcountry's waterways will never again be available on Kiawah.
Captain Maynard's Island is a total of 11.377 acres with 6.365 acres zoned for structures. The existing furnished home maximizes its acreage advantage with 6,505 square feet of heated living area, 2,677 square feet of decks and screened porches, and a 1,906 square-foot garage. Remaining buildable acreage affords the option of adding a pool with a cabana and an extra guesthouse.
The secluded island, encircled on each side by a saltwater river and creek, is accessed by a private gate and half-mile long drive that winds through Kiawah's maritime forest. An exterior crafted from cedar shake shingle and copper roofing make the house look like it grew naturally among the indigenous plants.
With its beautiful heart-of-pine floors, exposed wooden beams, wood-paneled walls and vaulted ceiling and stone-surround fireplace, the estate's magnificent great room fast becomes the heart of your home. Skylights and windows over a wall-of-windows that travel toward the ceiling welcome in the crisp coastal light. Four sets of French doors open to the large, main screened porch with panoramic views of the Kiawah River and an outdoor fireplace.
The gourmet kitchen is both fashionable and functional with maple cabinets, granite countertops and a center island with a prep sink. Stainless steel appliances include a six-burner stove with grill rack, warming oven and Thermador professional oven. The dining room is open to the kitchen, and its bay window frames river and marsh views. Adjacent to the dining room, a third screened porch looks out over the back lawn and dock.
Two guest suites provide plenty of privacy and comfort for friends and family visiting the estate. The first floor guest suite includes access to the home's second screened porch, a private bathroom with tile floors and walls, stand-alone shower, and dual sink vanity. The second floor guest suite welcomes visitors with vaulted ceilings, oversized windows with panoramic river views, and an exquisite custom private bath. The space is further enhanced by a cozy sitting room with a wet bar and a private balcony with creek views.
Cozy and comfortable, a private sitting room welcomes you to the master suite. Vaulted ceilings and picture windows expand the space far beyond the walls. In the bath, heated marble floors afford four-season comfort. His and hers vanities with custom cabinets, a large double corner shower and jet tub enhance the relaxing island pace. The total solitude of a hidden sundeck, accessible only from the master bathroom, overlooks the dock and river - perfect for private sunbathing and romantic evenings.
In addition to the multiple screened porches, the home has an open porch, perfect for a grill or summer kitchen. Two deepwater docks, one on the river and one on the creek, stand ready for boating adventures, crabbing, fishing, and all manner of waterside fun. When the sun goes down, don't let the fun go with it. Evenings on Captain Maynard's Island are spent relaxing under the stars in the outside Jacuzzi.
All of Kiawah's residents can enjoy the beach here but only a select few have the option to experience full access to its waterways. All-in-all, this truly one-of-a-kind private island oasis, with access to all the Island's amenities, perfectly embodies the Kiawah way-of-life.
Recently, 1 Captain Maynard's Island was selected by TopTenRealEstateDeals.com and featured on CNBC.com as being one of the Top Ten Island Enclaves For Sale. In choosing Captain Maynard's Island, the website noted, "This is the perfect spot to read The Swiss Family Robinson to your grandchildren.
