Designed by renowned architect Cletus Bergen, it was built in 1947 for a wealth merchant who spared no expense in the construction. Set on five Ardsley Park lots with unparalleled street presence, the house is built of reinforced steel, terra cotta stone, and poured concrete with a brick faÃ?§ade covered in stucco. The restoration, the most extensive and elaborate in all of historic Ardsley Park, was completed by the current owner, an international award-winning interior designer whose works have been featured in such publications as Architectural Digest, The New York Times, and Southern Living, as well as in the HGTV show ââ?¬Å?Homes Across Americaââ?¬Â?.
The outside of the home harkens to the chic residences of Sea Island, and the interior boasts an open, spacious 4,200 square feet which is perfect for entertaining, as the house flows beautifully from room to room and into the appointed garden. Classical features are found throughout the house, including rounded walls, hardwood floors, crown moldings and custom designed wall sconces and lighting fixtures.
