Recently appraised at $415,000. Built in 1933, the construction is exceptionally solid by today's standards. The walls are 18" thick, comprised of two courses of brick. The front door is 2-1/4" thick solid oak. The windows are steel casements, with 6"x9" glass panes mounted in heavy steel frames. These small window panes don't transmit sound as readily as large window panes do, so outside noise is effectively muffled. The window screens are heavy gauge steel mesh. The interior walls are lathe & plaster.
The lot size is 50'x 180', and there is no alley on this block, so the back yard is huge. It's 125' from the back of the house to the back of the lot.

The street is very wide and comfortable to drive on, with plenty of street parking for guests. It has a reserve sewer, it's on a snow route, and it's on a bus route. The #290 Pace bus is a 5 minute ride to the Cumberland Blue Line train station, and from there, it's 8 minutes to O'Hare Airport and about 35 minutes to downtown Chicago. There is a small shopping center and business district just around the corner, featuring seven restaurants, a 24/7 Walgreens drug store, Morningfields grocery store/bakery/deli, a 7/11 convenience store (also 24/7), two dry cleaners, three banks (one with safe deposit boxes), and much more. Just behind the shopping center is South Park, with 6 acres of playing fields, tennis courts, a baseball diamond, a children's playground with a wading pool, ice skating in the winter, and the South Park Recreation Center. There is a fire station 3 blocks away, and the police station is just a few blocks up the street. It's a 10 minute drive to one of the few remaining Level 1 Trauma Centers in the Chicago area, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. It's a 15 walk to the Metra train station, where there is also a taxicab stand. Just past the station is downtown Park Ridge, where, along with a variety of shopping and dining amenities, the Pickwick Theater has one of the very few remaining large theater screens in the entire Midwest. The Cumberland entrance to the 90/294/190 interstate highway interchange is a 5 minute drive. The Dominick's supermarket at Cumberland & Higgins is open 24/7, and it can be reached by car or #290 bus in 5 minutes. It includes a bakery, deli, pizza bar, sushi bar, 2-story dining area, free Wi-Fi, and UNDERGROUND PARKING (This is priceless). (The pizza bar serves a 16" pan crust pizza with one topping for $7.99, and on Fridays it's always on sale for $5.99.) The City of Park Ridge has an excellent mosquito abatement program. Roosevelt Elementary School is on the next block.More Less
