Neighborhood Description
Pelican, Alaska pop roughly 120, is a small boardwalk town located on Lisianski Inlet accessible only by boat or floatplane. It is located on a 3/4 stretch of boardwalk on pilings over water. It is an idyllic town, where the pace is slow and the excitement of the day normally surrounds the fishing fleets catch. Because of it's remote location it is not yet over-run with tourists, and is still one of those untouched, unchanged gems for those looking for someplace off the beaten path. Lisianski Inlet has great opportunities for salmon and halibut fishing and is also close to Cross Sound the commercial fishing hot-spot. It is also home to many brown bears, eagles, Sitka black tailed deer, land and sea otters, sea lions, whales and porpoises! Just a boat trip away you can visit the nearby town of Elfin Cove, another unique boardwalk town (albeit slightly more of a "tourism town" due to the numerous lodges), Glacier Bay, Lituya Bay, White Sulphur Hot Springs and miles of unique coastline on the outside of Chichagof and Yakobi Islands.More Less
