My Notes

Edit
Located between the San Francisquito Creek, Newell Road, Channing Avenue and Middlefield Road, Crescent Park has some of the largest lots in Palo Alto, mainly 20,000 square-foot lots. The neighborhood has a diverse range of architectural styles, from Mediterranean, Early Californian, Victorian and Monterey Colonial.
Crescent Park was farmland owned by Dr. William Newell. Newell planted some of the first Australian eucalyptus trees in America in Crescent Park. In 1867, Leland Stanford purchased approximately 740 acres of the Newell farmland for the university town of Palo Alto. From 1906 to mid 1920s, there was a streetcar that ran down University Avenue that gave the neighborhood access to downtown and the University. Stanford University was the major employer at that time. Crescent Park got its name because a couple of streets were crescent moon-shaped, and had been configured to fit the shape of the San Francisquito Creek. Additions to the area occurred in 1928, when a 31-acre lot along the creek to Newell Road was added, and in the late 1940s after World War II.  More Less
