Neighborhood Description
Terrific neighborhood, full of gorgeous, eclectic homes (some original little beach cottages, some architectural masterpieces) on quiet streets. The Via Grimaldi/Via Latina loop is informally known as San Diego's Architecture Hill and is well worth a walk just to check out the houses. Torrey Pines State Beach is a quick walk for surfers, swimmers, and hikers. Lots of restaurants on CV Road, a longer walk into Del Mar proper for the farmer's market, another dozen fabulous restaurants. Freeway access is perfect--easy but very little noise (unique in north county to have great access and no noise). Definitely have to drive kids to elementary and high schools, currently the middle school (2010) in Solana Beach has an inexpensive bus. The only downside to this neighborhood is that dogs are not allowed on the great TP walks, beach or otherwise, so you're confined to the neighborhood (on the plus side, you meet lots of people this way). Some homes still clearly weekend/summer places, lots of full-time residences and a good mix of apartments so the neighborhood still has a lot of personality.
 
What I love about the home
The builders used gorgeous natural materials in every single room, very private, very energy efficient. They didn't cut a single corner and it really shows in the materials (and the operating costs). All common rooms feature built-in wood bookshelves. Warm, lovely house.
