Our home is a cottage built in the 1950s. The home was previously remodeled in 1996. Since 2008, we have installed hickory engineered hard wood floor, new carpet in the bedrooms, a french door, completed a full kitchen remodel, painted the entire interior and exterior, installed a rock surround and walnut mantle on the fire place, installed 12V halogen lighting in kitchen and living room, and updated the bathroom.
Neighborhood Description
Tree-lined street with a mixed demography including families with young children and empty nesters. Residents are generally professionals employed in local industries. Homes in the neighborhood are in transition with older cottage style homes being replaced by larger two story residences. The neighborhood is close to local restaurants ranging from burgers to fine dining. The street is in walking distance to Starbucks, the Dutch Goose, Lutticken's Deli, Lulu's, and Flea Street Cafe. Other attractions include Blockbuster, Dailey Method (pilates studio), dry cleaning, and a frozen yogurt shop. Sharon Heights shopping center, including Safeway and CVS Pharmacy is a short drive or moderate walk. Downtown Menlo Park is also a short drive. Local schools including Los Lomitas (grade school) and Hillview (middle school) are among the best in California and are within walking distance. Menlo-Atherton High School (public), Menlo School (private), and Sacred Heart (private) are three nearby high schools. Highway 280 (7 minutes) and Highway 101 (12 minutes) are very accessible from Sherman Avenue.
Sherman Avenue retains the charm of old Menlo Park with tree-lined streets, friendly neighbors, and walking distance access to restaurants and other ammenities.
 

What I love about the home

We purchased our home when we returned to the Bay Area for my wife's job. Although our home retains its original square footage, we have upgraded nearly the entire home to reflect our appreciation for modern materials and conveniences. We enjoy the updates we have made to the home as well as its location close to local attractions. We installed a french door to capitalize on our lush backyard and welcoming deck. The garage was converted by a previous owner to an in-law unit which includes storage, a laundry area, and a second bathroom. Additional storage is provided by a shed connected to the converted garage. Our stone and walnut fireplace adds warmth to the fireplace and the wired sound system and flat screen wall-mounted TV makes for a cozy entertainment experience.
