Neighborhood Description
About Union Square Association:
Started in 1967, Union Square Association ?serves to promote preservation, conservation, and to improve the quality of life in Union Square Historic District and surrounding areas.? (Union Square By-laws, Mission Statement) For the past 4 years, Union Square Association has had approximately 100 members. This makes us one of the largest associations in the city! Our association is very active. In addition to the association?s monthly meetings, we participate in city-wide clean-ups, host annual events, and serve on various committees to help better the lives of our residents.
Less than two miles from the inner-harbor, Union Square is an historic neighborhood filled with spacious row houses of both Federal and Greek Revival architecture. It is an urban setting, lined with brick sidewalks and period street lamps, all centered around the beautiful Union Square park. Union Square is conveniently located in Southwest Baltimore with easy access to interstates 95, 295, and the MARC train to Washington DC.
Union Square is home to a diverse, interesting group of residents. The neighborhood has home owners and renters; people who have lived in the neighborhood for 30+ years and new residents, as well as a mix of different ages, races, and classes. Our homes are filled with doctors, lawyers, business people, teachers, stay at home parents, military members, entrepreneurs, etc.
Union Square offers residents many opportunities to get involved in several different activities, from summertime movies in the park, the spring time SoWeBo Arts festival, and a wintertime Cookie Tour. Neighbors get together regularly for potluck dinners and social gatherings. In addition, neighbors have opportunities to volunteer in activities such as working with a youth council, serving on various committees, and neighborhood clean-ups.
