Year Built 1923. There is not one thing up to code in this whole house. Well, there were no codes in 1923. There is no setback on the north side. The house is right on the property line. A significant part of the property on the south side is the neighbor's driveway and parking.
The springs in the rainy season create a flooding and mold problem in the basement.

What I love about the home

The roller coaster floors. The dogs and cats just love the way balls roll in unexpected directions, and we love tripping and falling. The cracked ceramic tile. The floor flexes. The lack of heat in the living/dining/ kitchen area. No central heating, now. The old furnace fan gave up about a month ago. I came home to find smoke coming from the basement. The furnace was burning away. It was about to melt. The blower motor had siezed, and the automatic shutoff hadn't shut the furnace down. It's beyond repair, and beyond my budget to replace, so we have the fireplace (we're exempt from "spare the air days, now), and some space heaters which are expensive to use. The basement is flooded right now with all the rain we've had... AND we've got some pretty good new roof leaks around the skylights. A few towels on the the cracked ceramic tile floor soak that up pretty well, though. All in all, as much as I like the place, it's real cold in the winter and a contractor friend who came over for dinner yesterday said that the house needs so much work that it's basically a scraper. The problem is going to be getting the equipment up the one lane road about 1/3 mile from highway 12. The new house up the street which was built as a spec house went on the the market 2 years ago at $1.2 million. I see now on Zillow that it sold for $495,000. It's a nice house. If that house goes for $495,000, I figure this should bring in $35,000 tops Lehman Bros. really should have had an HONEST appraisal done before they gave me all that money on a re-fi, but Dick Fuld wanted to write as many sub-primes as he could, although this wasn't a sub prime. The loan was full doc. They just couldn't wait to write this loan. As I said, no appraisal. no muss, no fuss. No central heating, now. The old furnace gave up about a month ago. I should add that the stove, an O'Keefe and Merritt is my personal property, so no stove comes with the house.
