This is a wonderful 3 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom, end unit townhome located in the Oaks at Defoor community in the Underwood Hills neighborhood on Atlanta's hip Westside. The main level offers a spacious living room with a working gas fireplace, custom built-in bookcase and entertainment center, and French doors leading out to a private deck. There's also a separate dining room and a fully-equipped kitchen. Upstairs, there are 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths including a large master suite with great natural light, tons of closet space, and a private bathroom. The terrace level -- which could be used as a separate den, in-law suite or office -- has two spacious rooms, a full bath, laundry room, tons of storage and a sliding door to a fenced in terrace that opens out to a large, shared greenspace.
Neighborhood Description
Underwood Hills is convenient to everything that intown Atlanta has to offer, but also provides a quiet, peaceful setting. From here, you have easy access to I-75/85, GA 400, and I-285 as well as the shops of Buckhead, Midtown's arts venues, and the Downtown business district. This is a creative part of town. There are antique shops, funky furniture warehouses, excellent restaurants, and incubators for small businesses and arts organizations all around the Westside (or Midtown West as the larger community has become known in recent years). For many years, this was an industrial part of town with small, semi-rural residential neighborhoods. Since the 1990s, the area once again attracted residential development because of its excellent location in proximity to the interstate and the more well-known intown neighborhoods. This area features a mix of new homes and renovated older homes. The popular Atlantic Station multi-use development is located about a mile from Underwood Hills. It features residential, entertainment and retail components as well as hotel and office space. The District at Howell Mill is another large new shopping center nearby. It features major retailers including: Wal-Mart, Ross, TJ Maxx, PetSmart, Starbucks, and more. [More about area development.]
Underwood Hills has its own charming neighborhood park, Underwood Park, with a ball field, 2 tennis courts, a basketball court, a nice picnic shelter, and 2 new playgrounds (one for older children, one for preschoolers). This area is also convenient to Atlanta Memorial Park (home of the Bobby Jones public 18-hole golf course and the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center); Chastain Park (one of the city's premier performing arts venues); and the southern end of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (rafting, hiking, fishing, etc.).
