Designed by reknowned architect Chester Bowles, Jr. as his family home, this unique, one-story residence is approximately 250 square meters. It has simplicity, grace, charm, and California-styled elegance with a floor plan is exceedingly livable and ideal for entertaining.Construction on the home began in 1959 and was completed in 1960. The house has custom features throughout and was designed for privacy and to take advantage of the setting and spectacular views from all the rooms. Building materials emphasized the use of the finest woods and extensive use of glass. Due to the high quality and durability of the building materials, the original house has been maintained in excellent condition. All rooms have floor-to-ceiling French doors that open to vistas and outdoor private areas. The floors and windows and all the trims and doors and the very highest of quality vertical grain Douglas Fir. At the time of construction, the entry had one of the largest skylights in a California residence. The exterior of the house is Port Orford cedar - a special vertical-grain cut of white cedar and it remains in excellent condition. There is a covered carport, circular driveway and four distinct but connected outside entertaining areas.The estate begins at the private gate with stone pillars on either side and follows a long approximately 200 meter private driveway. This hilltop approach is lined with Monterey pine trees and overlooks the San Francisco Bay.
