My Notes

Collingwood is a thoroughfare, used to connect the GW Parkway to Fort Hunt Rd and to Route One. The firestation, police station, the elementary school and the hospital are located on Collingwood as it heads west past this house and becomes Parker Lane. This home sits approximately 65 feet back from the road. It is a quiet area with most lots being approximately .25 acre or better. Along the stretch of Collingwood this house resides, there are no sidewalks, therefore there is little if any foot traffic in front of the home. The neighborhood is quiet and cozy and picturesque, surrounded by woods to the east and north. This neighborhood represents a more mature family and residential neighborhood. However, several of the older homes, due to their enormous lot sizes have been razed and million dollar+ homes built. This home is one of about 10 homes located on Collingwood that are modest homes surrounded by higher dollar valued homes. These homes truly represent the cheapest homes in the most high end neighborhood. 

What I love about the home

Location is everything with this home. It sits 1 mile from the GW Parkway in Mt Vernon. There is a wonderful bike/running path that extends 26 miles from George Washington's home in Mt Vernon past Georgetown. All of the path is along the Potomac River through historic Alexandria, VA, Potomac Yards and Reagan Nat'l Airport, 3 Marina's. All of which offer views of the Capitol, the new DC Inner Harbor, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, the Tidal Basin. In addition, the home is only 1/2 mile from the INOVA hopital (mt vernon). Across from the INOVA is Douglas Elementary School, as well as a Fairfax County Police Station and a Fire Station. By following the GW Parkway past, George Washington's home, you can access one of Ft Belvoir's back gates, which precludes fighting traffic on Route One. The home also sits 1 1/4 mile east of Route 1, which has now been developed as one of the best shopping areas in Alexandria. Stores such as, Home Depot, Lowe's, Bed Bath and Beyond, IHOP, Ruby Tuesdays,Blockbuster, Panera Bread, Chipotle, Walmart, Target, Old Country Buffet, Applebee's, Outback, Safeway, Giant, Shoppers ...just to name a few. The house itself sits on a 1/3 acre lot. There is an empty lot next to it (east), and an unbuildable empty lot behind it. To the west, the neighbors house faces west, therefore you are literally secluded in your own private sanctuary. The newly developed back patio complements the deck and gives additional space for BBQ's and enjoying nature. A concrete pad has been placed on the east of the house which will allow for a shed in the future. One of the best features is the fact that Collingwood is the major thoroughfare from the GW Parkway to the Hospital, Fire Station and Police station. No matter how much snow the area may get, Collingwood is always prepared and kept clear. You will never be trapped because of slow street clearing.
