Description
1950's brick cape cod with asphalt side driveway and attached one car garage with creek on property Northern boarder. Updated bathrooms but original kitchen and floors in average condition. Newer roof and siding at second floor (all face-brick first floor) needs new windows throughout and new rear soffit and facia. Full basement is unfinished. Enclosed rear porch (7x10), brick wood burning fireplace. Private septic field on over-sized lot at the end of a cul-de-sac with mature wooded trees enclosing land. Lot abutts to condominiums and apartment buildings but this adverse view is negated somewhat (not noticable to homeowners) by creek and deep private field insluating the property and again the tall mature wooded nature of the lot. Irregular size of lot still allows for greatly oversized private rear yard area.
Neighborhood Description
The best overall feature of this neighborhood is its access to the Northern Illinios Expressway System and O'Hare Air Port which means that many major streets converge in Des Plaines and Park Ridge allowing unprecidented access to traffic arteries compared to most other Northwestern Suburbs of Chicago. This neighborhood is on the Des Plaines side of a jagged boarder between Des Plaines and Park Ridge. Park Ridge is a superior suburb but this remains a desirable area in Des Plaines. There are few detached residences in the immediate area as it is developed mostly with townhomes and mid-rise condominiums due to the expensive land. There has been recent development of luxury designed homes in an area former thought to be forest preserve but very close to this home (1/2 mile) and these range well over $500,000 and up to $800,000. School systems are adequate in my opinion and over-rated but they are highly regarded throught the suburban area according to test scores and league sports performances (in the upper 80 percentile compared to the national average per signs on Maine East High School). In my opinion the Neighborhood is more atuned to older residents and retirees than to small families.
 
What I love about the home
Excellent access to expressways (I-294 and I-290)and major through routes. Private creek running along North boarder of land parcel that insulates the property from condo building on other side. Thick and tall mature trees and shrubs also serve as insulation insuring privacy. Brick fireplace. Full unfinished basement. Long driveway with turn-style end that allows for non-tandem parking for three full-size vehicles in addition to the one car garage. Location at end of cul-de-sac street emphasizes the privacy of this home. Large private rear yard platform.
