Underwood Hills is convenient to everything that intown Atlanta has to offer, but also provides a quiet, peaceful setting. From here, you have easy access to I-75/85, GA 400, and I-285 as well as the shops of Buckhead, Midtown's arts venues, and the Downtown business district. This is a creative part of town. There are antique shops, funky furniture warehouses, excellent restaurants, and incubators for small businesses and arts organizations all around the Westside (or Midtown West as the larger community has become known in recent years). For many years, this was an industrial part of town with small, semi-rural residential neighborhoods. Since the 1990s, the area once again attracted residential development because of its excellent location in proximity to the interstate and the more well-known intown neighborhoods. This area features a mix of new homes and renovated older homes. The popular Atlantic Station multi-use development is located about a mile from Underwood Hills. It features residential, entertainment and retail components as well as hotel and office space. The District at Howell Mill is another large new shopping center nearby. It features major retailers including: Wal-Mart, Ross, TJ Maxx, PetSmart, Starbucks, and more. Underwood Hills has its own charming neighborhood park, Underwood Park, with a ball field, 2 tennis courts, a basketball court, a nice picnic shelter, and 2 new playgrounds (one for older children, one for preschoolers). This area is also convenient to Atlanta Memorial Park (home of the Bobby Jones public 18-hole golf course and the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center); Chastain Park (one of the city's premier performing arts venues); and the southern end of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (rafting, hiking, fishing, etc.).
