My Notes

Warm, sunny, traditional Dutch Colonial, on gorgeous private property at hilltop end of cul-de-sac. 2 car attached garage, central air conditioning system with new condenser unit in 2004, fireplace, hardwood floors, heating by piped hot water, oil fired furnace new in 1997, original buried oil tank removed in 2005 and new tank installed in basement. New roof in 1998. Basement, with five windows, could be modified to provide 1000+ square feet extra living space with full ceiling. Master bedroom suite dressing room/study could be an additional bedroom as allowed by five bedroom septic system.
Neighborhood Description
There are many opportunities to enjoy the countryside. It is an easy half mile walk to the 640 acre Westmoreland Sanctuary Nature Preserve, where there are 7 miles of trails. The 750 acre Mianus River Gorge Preserve, with 2.5 miles of trails, is four miles away, through picturesque country lanes.

The location of the home is beautiful. It is also very conveniently situated, close to the New York/Connecticut border. It is three miles to Bedford Village with its historic buildings, Village Green, stores, restaurants, library, banks, Post Office and cinema. Armonk, Mount Kisco, Greenwich, White Plains and Stamford are all within 5 - 12 miles. It is six miles to the Merritt Parkway.

The commute to New York City, Grand Central Station is very easy. There are good choices. The drives to North White Plains or Greenwich stations are both 20/25 minutes. Trains are frequent and take 40-45 minutes on either line. Upper Manhattan is 30/35 miles and takes 40 minutes by car, longer to Mid-Town, depending on traffic. We were first attracted to the area because of a need to commute to the city and found that the short, daily, transition between city and quiet country was delightful!

What I love about the home

Cul-de-sac location, end of the road, top of the hill, beautiful views and tranquility. The open aspect and the morning sun at the front, the sunsets at the rear of the house. The large trees on two sides filtering the sun in summer but, with the absence of leaves, allowing maximum benefit from winter sunshine. The two acre property extends over both sides of the hilltop ridge. It includes the peak and has a mix of level lawns, dramatic granite rock outcroppings, 100+ year old stone walls, wooded areas and gentle slopes. It is easy to maintain, naturally. Our children found the property ideal for play, the neighborhood very safe, allowing and encouraging walking to meet friends. We are close to the Byram Hills schools which they enjoyed and are very good. The house is light and airy, with good traffic flow and views through the living areas and to the outside. It is very private and requires no curtains, which facilitates the natural lighting. The hardwood floors complement and enhance the light appearance. House maintenance has been easy. The cedar shingles are preservative treated for long life. The driveway slopes down from the house and is very convenient for snow-clearing. The appliances are conveniently situated in and near the kitchen, which is used for most informal dining.
