Cornelia B. Speer commissioned the renowned architects Myron Hunt and Elmer Grey to build a winter residence in The Arroyo Terrace neighborhood on the banks of the Arroyo Seco. David M. Renton was the builder and this wonderful home was completed in 1904. The property is included in Gebhard and Winter s book on Los Angeles Architecture as a good example of early Dutch Colonial Revival. This very special property also enjoys Mills Act Status, with tremendous property tax savings. Hardwood floors, oversized windows and French doors are just a few of the home s wonderful details. The home has been extensively updated with all the modern conveniences including central air conditioning, kitchen with granite counters, generously sized center island and Viking appliances. There are four bedrooms, including two master suites on the second level. There is a fifth bedroom with bath located on the first level, as well as, a finished third floor attic and basement. There is also a studio with bath located behind the garage. The home has wonderful balconies, covered porches and patios for outdoor entertaining and is sited on a 13,536 foot lot with mature trees and plantings.
