My Notes

The magnificent 1885 Quincy-Wardner House was designed by Allen & Kenway (architects of several Beacon St/Boston stone townhouses), and is located in Dorchester's bucolic Carruth neighborhood, 3 blocks from the Ashmont Red Line T. This Queen Anne Victorian was built in the Romanesque style of massive rusticated stone, brick and wood shingle and has been faithfully and impeccably restored. A grand living hall features extensive quarter-sawn oak architectural detail, stained glass and monumental fireplace, but this is just the beginning the adventure of exploring this lovely house. Light streams through numerous oversize and stained glass windows into formal living, dining, music, and billiards rooms, a large master with it's own tree-top porch, a commodious marble bath, plus an expansive open floor plan kitchen/family room. There are five fireplaces each with a distinctive mantel; an octagonal porch for afternoon tea. A large fenced yard is a bonus.  More Less

all-time (chart)

Neighborhood: South Dorchester

Zillow predicts South Dorchester home values will increase 4.4% next year, compared to a 3.6% increase for Boston as a whole. Among South Dorchester homes, this home is valued 216.1% more than the midpoint (median) home, and is valued 1.7% more per square foot.

Foreclosures will be a factor impacting home values in the next several years. In the South Dorchester market, the number of foreclosures waiting to be sold shrank 81.5% in the last year. The number of unsold foreclosures is 126.4% higher than in Boston, and 3.7% higher than the national average. This higher local number may prevent South Dorchester home values from rising as quickly as other regions in Boston.
