My Notes

Historic John Calvin Stevens West End Row House (circa 1910). Gracious 3600 sq.ft. +/- bursting with sunlight, 2 fireplaces, high ceilings, spacious rooms with crown moldings, five panel wood doors, transoms, & double closets. Ten rooms, 2 full baths, plus 1/4 bath in basement. Beautifully refinished hardwood floors with historically appropriate patina, by C & E Hardwood Floors (Eddie O'Brian). European style kitchen with granite counters, Bosch appliances, and double sized 'Farmer's' sink. Custom designed Hunter Douglas wood blinds. Large private yard, custom designed walkway by Krista Butterfield, and landscape design by James McCain. New roof by St. Hilaire Roofers (Nov. 2014). Home has been hard wired with smoke, fire, & carbon monoxide detectors. There is no deeded off street parking, but the Historic Board has approved a curb cut / driveway. Move to America's most livable city according to Forbes magazine:www.Forbes.com.

What I love about the home

Our 1910 John Calvin Steven's home is bursting with sunlight throughout the day. We are an end row home which affords us many vantage points of light and greenery from outside. We love the compatibility of period architectural details with the conveniences of modern amenities. The walk-through butler's pantry has glass door cabinets and a darling window. The kitchen is spacious and comfortable. We have chosen the simplicity of wall space rather than upper cabinetry, because the oversized walk in pantry provides ample storage. The ceilings are high (more than 9 1/2') and the rooms are large (three of which are double sized). The flexible floor plan, with formal front entry stairway and rear staircase, affords privacy for a growing family as well as guests. We love our West End neighborhood with its tree lined streets, beautiful architecture, and close proximity to restaurants, coffee shops, galleries, & the Portland Museum of Art. Our charming Historic neighborhood boasts several wonderful restaurants, cafés, & markets, (Caiola's, Bonobo Pizza, Oh No Café, Rosemont Bakery, & we even have a Cumberland Farms for those last minute necessities-or gas). We are a 5 minute walk to Maine Medical Center, and a 3 minute drive to rt. 295. Living in the West End is an ideal blend of urban life and suburban quaintness. If volunteering is your passion, our home is 2 blocks from Learning Works where you can teach ESL to immigrant students, or work with local high schoolers in need of academic support. The Ronald McDonald house is also 2 blocks away, & they welcome volunteers in several capacities. We are a block from Reiche Elementary school, and 10 minutes from world renowned King Middle School. Waynflete private school is a 5 minute walk from 27 West Street.
