The Richard and Mabelle Hill House, designed by Architect Lester S. Moore as an "Italianate Craftsman," was built 1913. This 1.5 acre gated estate is on a private drive in East Altadena. The house was completely renovated in 1998-2000 with all new systems, underground utilities, fully insulated, dual-glazed windows, roof, stucco and copper exterior details. Many original features were restored to their 1913 and 1935 glory! The house has an unusual u-shaped floor plan with a central patio facing the evening sunset. The three story garage was built 1934 and has a 1 bedroom apartment above, 3-horse stable below, now a large storage/exercise/music room.) Landscaping includes charming stone work from the 1930's and new landscaping with a large lawn and a shady Mulberry Arbor. There are old oaks, deodars, date palms and fruit trees, and a large tree house in the back yard. There are beautiful mountain views, privacy and great neighbors. Admire the grazing deer from the dining room! 
What I love about the home
The Hill House is located in the middle of a large sloping lot in a great neighborhood on a private drive. This quiet, secluded house has a long history of happy families. Probably the sunniest Craftsman house you'll ever see, the Hill House is comfortable, cheerful and great for entertaining indoors and out. The kitchen is large, bright and practical. There is a large fitted library in the full basement with its own entry. The house was featured in the book "At Home: Pasadena." We have the original 1913 blueprints, subsequent revisions, all permits and photographs of the house as built in 1913.
