In their popular book Classic Houses of Portland Oregon 1850-1950, authors Hawkins and Willingham describe the Thomas Prince House as one of the most inventive houses in the Colonial Revival style, noting that it is an excellent example of asymmetrical architecture, both in plan and its elevations. This landmark residence embraces classical Georgian detailing with an all brick exterior, keystone accents, Doric entrance columns, balustrades, modulated cornices and a hipped slate roof with pedimented dormers.
