This unique landmark property which has an Ohio Historical marker was built in 1838 by Thomas Hurst and was one of the largest farms in Ohio with over 3200 acres. From 1900-1913 US Senator Burton lived here. Supposedly Teddy Roosevelt spent the night here. Steve McQuillin has spent many years painstakingly restoring and completely rehabilitating and expanding this home to meet modern codes (insulation, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, spending $1.4 million) yet conserving the period dcor, the original walnut staircase flanked by parlors, the original floors, fireplaces, period wallpaper,the soaring grand spaces. The modern kitchen has vaulted ceiling, a restored 3 story chimney. This home has over 5000 s.f., 4 levels, 5+ BRs, 7 baths, 5 fireplaces, an elevator, a Pub on lower level and a party room seating 50. On the third floor there is a cupola overlooking the gardens. What I love about the home
Beautiful yard with many specimen tress and shrubs; paths, birch allee, pond and gazebo; all very private; the house is a grand building with massive chimneys; this is real history and the place has an Ohio Historical Marker, plus was featured in HGTV's "If Walls Could Talk" show. The house has also been featured in a book on American houses.
