My Notes

Edit
This 1895 architectural gem sits on one of the most picturesque streets in Georgetown. The Brown-Allen House has been owned by only three families. The home has been lovingly restored, and carefully renovated. The project was meticulously planned by Muse Architects and flawlessly executed by master craftsman Glass Construction and completed in October 2012.
This home has 3,967 finished square feet that includes a finished basement and three above-ground levels. The home has 3 living areas, 5 bedrooms, and 4.5 bathrooms.
Classic wrought iron exterior steps lead to double-doors and a slate floor entry. The exterior stairs were forged to match the 1895 staircase banister, and the fireplace mantle. As you walk into this inspiring home, you see Victorian-era 12 foot ceilings with intricate plaster crown molding and stained glass windows. The Victorian charm is decorated in a clean transition style. The home has oak flooring throughout the main levels and ceramic tile flooring in the basement and bathrooms. The clean feeling is accented by museum quality lighting throughout. Wall-mounted TVs have all components hidden from view.
The Living Room and Dining Room draw immediate attention to an absolute black marble fireplace, a distinctive, tall Rumford-style wood-burning with gas hookup. Rumford fireplaces became common soon after Count Rumford first wrote about the design in 1796. Rumford-style fireplaces were considered more efficient and state-of-the-art. Jefferson even had them installed at Monticello. The renovated home has a state-of-the-art, energy efficient, 4-zone HVAC system with new double-insulated custom windows.
The main floor flows into a chef's kitchen with two Subzero refrigerators, Wolf range, and Meile dishwasher. There is a large granite island that seats five. The kitchen is finished with Carrara marble and custom cabinetry my Masters Woodshop. The kitchen opens to a family room that overlooks a tiered terrace and blue stone patio. The terrace was built for outdoor entertainment and features three mature Japanese Maples. One tree towers 20 feet over the patio and presents its beautiful fire-red colors during the spring and the fall.
Bathrooms feature granite counters, tile floors with built-in, mirrored medicine cabinets. The master bath features two sinks, pedestal tub, and a glass enclosed shower.
A key design requirement for the renovation was ample storage. So the home has generous over-closet, under-stair, attic, and garage storage. There is also a spacious master walk-in closet.
The home retains its classic charm while offering every modern convenience: new electrical, new mechanical, new plumbing, new HVAC, and wiring for network/cable/phone. Bedrooms and living areas (except LR) are wired with Giga-bite Ethernet and for telephone and cable. Apple Airport WIFI was installed on three floors to ensure strong connectivity. In-ceiling sound for Sonos / Pandora was installed throughout the main floor.
The home was designed to deliver peace of mind to the international traveler. The home offers a commercial grade security system for Web-based remote monitoring along with remote Web-based entry access.

What I love about the home

The home also has a fun history! It was featured in a Hollywood movie (Wedding Crashers with Owen Wilson). And, at least according to the tour buses that pass-by, the home was one of the earliest in Georgetown to convert and add a one car garage for an automobile. The original garage was so tiny that it could only fit a Smart Car! Thankfully, the new garage was reconfigured and now fits a. full-sized vehicle with room to store another vehicle. The home sits in one of the most amazingly walkable and active communities in the country. It?s a short 5 minute stroll into the heart of Georgetown. Restaurants, retail, grocery, pharmacy, schools, public libraries, and a movie theatre are within easy walking distance. It?s a 15 minute walk along the Georgetown water front to reach Kennedy Center and only 20 minutes to Lincoln Memorial and the Mall. Cyclists have easy access to hundreds of miles of bike trails. Hikers / dog walkers can reach deep woods and footpaths of Rock Creek in 7 minutes.
