A winding drive cuts through pristine woodlands with tall evergreen trees, ending in a circular driveway in front of a lovely traditional home. Built in 1926, the two-story house was designed by noted Seattle architect Edwin Ivey, who endowed it with split shingle walls, a cedar shake roof and shuttered windows. This inviting residence, situated on a two-acre lot with mature plantings, enjoys breathtaking views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. It has lovingly remained in the same family since it was built by the daughter of one of the original Highlands founders in 1926. From its vantage point above Puget Sound one can hear the waves, birds and sea lions, smell the warm beach sand and see the tide pools and the expanse of sandy beach at low tide. Enjoy the feel of the San Juans everyday at home! An entry hall with a curved staircase introduces interiors with large scale formal rooms that flow from one to another, providing an ideal setting for entertaining. The living room has crown molding, a long wall lined in built-in bookshelves, and a wood-burning fireplace with a traditional mantel and brick surround. An adjoining formal dining room features wainscot walls, hardwood floors, and a bay window with stunning western vistas. An adjoining family room offers a wall of built-in cabinetry for entertainment equipment and a bay window looking out on the entry area. What I love about the home
The utility room has access to an attached 2-car garage as well as the front entry area and backyard. The home has four bedrooms, all situated on the second level. A privately situated master suite in endowed with a vaulted ceiling, wood-burning fireplace, and west-facing view windows. The master suite also has a three-quarter tile bath and two walk-in closets, one with a built-in dressing table. A full bath serves the other three bedrooms, two of which enjoy water and mountain views. Stairs off the kitchen lead to a basement, mostly unfinished, that affords abundant storage space and great potential for another full level of living space. A small finished bedroom, now used as a home office, is equipped with a sink and water closet. Beautiful grounds offer sweeping manicured lawns, fruit trees, rose and perennial gardens, and a greenhouse. This distinguished property is located in The Highlands, one of Seattle's premier gated communities, prized for is privately situated homes and wooded surroundings.
