My Notes

Edit
This Richardsonian Romanesque mansion is being offered for the first time in over 50 years. The imposing stone structure designed by Frederick Bonsack for Brown Shoe Company founder George Warren in 1897, sits on a lot-and-a-half in St. Louis' premier neighborhood, known around the world for its fine examples of turn-of-the-century mansions. Step through the front door and the old world, money is no object craftsmanship is apparent. The rosewood paneled reception hall features an Italianate mosaic floor, original frescos, Corinthian pilasters and a grand rosewood staircase. There is a Southern facing leaded glass Palladium window on the landing under a barrel ceiling. The east wing of the home is dominated by the formal living room. The rosewood paneling continues along with some leaded glass cabinets, and at the end a massive French limestone, wood-burning fireplace. In the ceiling is an Elizabethan plaster relief. French doors lead to a covered porch, and pocket doors lead to the 1908 solarium addition. This room's outstanding feature is the Tiffany style domed skylight. There are mosaic floors, classical pilasters and bi-fold wrought iron doors that lead to the dining room. From the coffered ceiling to the quarter sawn oak floor this room sure to enhance even the dullest food. When entering under port-cochere and through the vestibule, the first room is the small lounge and powder room. Oak paneling, leaded glass cabinetry, and a gas fireplace make a cozy respite from the outside world. In this same west wing there is a walnut paneled study with herringbone floors, classical plaster moldings, and a gas fireplace with a marble mantel. The kitchen has been renovated with deference to the home and retains the original glazed brick, call box, oversized dumb waiter, and butler's pantry. The second floor master bedroom suite features Adams style plaster frieze, a sitting room with a fireplace and access to a private deck, and two original dressing rooms, each with its own bath. The second suite consists of a bedroom with a fireplace, a sitting room, original dressing area and a private bath. The third bedroom has a private deck and en-suite bath. On the third floor there are three bedrooms, two full baths, a sitting room, a wrapping room, and abundant storage. In the lower level there is a billiard room, wet bar, and playroom. Additional features include a swimming pool, bluestone decking, and a carriage house with an apartment.  More Less
