Lovely, charming home in amazing, central location just blocks from the heart of Kensington, 39th Street Park, and central Normal Heights. Many beautiful upgrades while still retaining some of the home's original style and character including coved ceilings. Newly-renovated kitchen (Nov. 2006) is open and spacious...great for entertaining. Granite counters. New appliances. Built-in wine rack. Front porch has been newly replaced and upgraded (Dec. 2007). Bathroom fully remodeled (July 2004) with Travertine tile throughout in custom design. French doors open out to the cozy back patio, which surrounded by privacy fencing and beautiful hummingbird-friendly morning glory. Perfect place for herb garden.
What I love
For us, the house was love at first sight. We love to cook and entertain, so the large, open kitchen and accessible back patio were real attractions. I also love the coved ceilings as they show some of the home's original style. The bedrooms are a good size, especially for the area, and for us have been quite versatile...first there was the media room, which gave way to a nursery. The cove of the master bedroom worked well as a small office space, but has since housed the crib of our 2nd child. Versatility! The sizes of the yards...front and back...while they seem small, have actually been an asset. Just enough space to add our own touch and enjoy some gardening, without the hours of upkeep. My husband especially loves the back patio to entertain in warm weather and as a peaceful retreat. Prior to this home, my husband and I lived in a beach community where everything was accessible by foot or bicycle. We wanted the same for our next home, but didn't want the look or feel of cookie-cutter developments. We fell in love with this house before we were even ready to think about buying. The location can't be beat -- nestled in a cozy, quiet little neighborhood tucked back from the main roads, north of Adams Ave., between I-15, I-805, and I-8. Just 7 minutes to Horton Plaza, Hillcrest, SDSU, and Mission Valley. 5 minutes to Qualcomm Stadium. We walk *everywhere*: just a few blocks to the grocery store, pharmacy, the heart of Kensington, several parks, fine dining, casual dining, an historical indy movie theater and THREE Starbucks! Best of all, I love the people and the feel of the community. Some say that's not part of the house, but it's part of what makes this our home.
Neighborhood Description
Prior to this home, my husband and I lived in a beach community where everything was accessible by foot or bicycle. We wanted the same for our next home, but didn't want the look or feel of cookie-cutter developments. We fell in love with the home and the area before we were even ready to think about buying. The location can't be beat -- nestled in a cozy, quiet little neighborhood known as Bonnie Brae, tucked back from the main roads, north of Adams Ave., between I-15, I-805, and I-8. Just 7 minutes to Horton Plaza, Hillcrest, SDSU, and Mission Valley. 5 minutes to Qualcomm Stadium. We walk *everywhere*: just a few blocks to the grocery store, pharmacy, the heart of Kensington, several parks, fine dining, casual dining, wine bar, an historical indy movie theater (The Ken...the last of its kind in San Diego), several independent coffee shops, and THREE Starbucks! Our street in particular is wonderful in its warmth and friendliness. Neighbors take turns hosting the Bonnie Brae neighborhood "potluck" each quarter so we can all get together over good food and drink. Normal Heights has several community functions including Adams Avenue Street Fair, Roots Festival, and the Antique Row Fair. Just 2 blocks over the bridge, Kensington puts on several patriotic events including parades for Memorial Day and July 4th. And on those hot summer days, we love to stroll over to Mariposa for award-winning, homemade ice cream!!
