My Notes

This new, modern LEED Platinum* home, designed by local Mill Valley architect Geoff Butler, is just three blocks from downtown Mill Valley and is the most exciting new home of the year. Taking advantage of the existing footprint, it combines sustainable, durable materials with fir ceilings recycled from the original structure, plus storage for 1,000 gallons of rain and grey water. This exquisitely designed efficient 2,500 square foot residence includes 4 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, a great room, family room, master suite, outdoor shower, skylights, clerestory windows, and a 2-car garage. The 3 tiered home, complete with decks, gardens, patio and lawn is perfect for indoor-outdoor living and entertaining. It is situated within walking distance to restaurants, shops, Old Mill, Park, and Greenwood Schools, Mill Valley Market, Mill Valley Library, Mill Valley Tennis Club, Mill Valley Golf Course, and Boyle Park.

Neighborhood Description
5 Hillcrest Road is located in the Country Club area of Mill Valley, just 2 level blocks from downtown. The Mill Valley Tennis Club, Boyle Park and the Mill Valley Golf Course are a short walk from the home. The neighborhood consists mostly of homes built in the 1950's that have been remodeled and expanded over the last 60 years with the addition of new larger homes that have replaced the old ones. The vegetation in the area is mature with large native oaks, redwoods, bay laurel and other native species with lush cultivated residential landscapes. The weather is sunny and warmer with less wind than many of Mill Valley's neighborhoods.

What I love about the home

The concept of this property was to build a cutting edge designed green home at essentially the same cost as traditional construction. This new Mill Valley home successfully demonstrates that green building is the way of the future without comprising quality and cost. More than 50% of wood recycled from the original home Framing lumber - Forest Steward Certified (FSC) Resource monitoring to track energy and water Rainwater storage system for toilet flushing Separate grey water storage for lawn irrigation Locally sourced materials with high-recycled content High-energy efficiency Radiant heating and on demand hot water Solar ready for 5-kilowatt PV system Available electric car charging in garage Florescent and LED lighting Optimum indoor air quality through no VOC interior paints and whole house vacuum Drought tolerant landscaping with automatic irrigation system
