My Notes

Edit
From Wikipedia: "Twickenham Historic District was the first historic district designated in Huntsville, Alabama, USA. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 4, 1973. The name derives from an early name for the town of Huntsville, named after Twickenham, England, by LeRoy Pope. It features homes in the Federal and Greek Revival architectural styles introduced to the city by Virginia-born architect George Steele about 1818, and contains the most dense concentration of antebellum homes in Alabama. The 1819 Weeden House Museum, home of female artist and poet Maria Howard Weeden, is open to the public, as are several others in the district."
Many Huntsvillians attribute Twickenham, Old Town and the downtown Courthouse Square as the "heart of the city." Downtown boasts the Von Braun Center, Big Spring Park, Huntsville Museum of Art, Earlyworks Hands on History Museum, the Huntsville Depot Museum and more. Homes in the historic districts are maintained with pristine care and impeccable style, offering a virtual living museum of historic architecture, including a rare number of antebellum homes. Many antebellum homes were destroyed throughout the South after the Civil War, unlike in Huntsville. This was due to the city's use as a command post for Union officers and soldiers during the war. Many of the Union soldiers loved Huntsville so much that they returned to the area after the war.

What I love about the home

Built by the granddaughter of Robert Fearn, Sr, a noted Huntsvillian from the time Huntsville became a city. The Fearn family, especially through Mr. Fearn & his brother, Dr. Thomas Fearn, is woven throughout most of the biggest events and locations of Huntsville's history. Also, the extreme care taken with the original woodwork during the renovation as well as the attention to creating an addition of the same scale/size/detailing as the original home. The transition is truly seamless.
