What I love about the home

The way the house is filled with light during the day. All the beautiful original Victorian ceiling medallions and woodwork, some of which we unearthed, including the gingerbread over the hall arch we found in the attic. The beautiful two tiered mantle. The beautiful oak banister and newel post we would decorate for the holidays. The layout of the rooms and height of the ceilings which creates a sense of spaciousness and flow. The wonderful large, sunny eat-in kitchen with lots of cabinets and room for my clawfoot table. Relaxing on the rocker on the screen porch at the end of the day. Breakfast on the deck or on the sun porch overlooking the garden. The incredible amount of storage space, The dining room that could accommodate our heirloom golden oak dining room table that sat 12 for holiday dinners. The sound dampening quality of the house , so unlike new houses, which is the result of solid construction, solid hardwood door and iron and copper pipes. The pear tree in the front turns a gorgeous red, orange purple in the Fall, and the leaves hang on long after others have fallen. Cutting lilac flowers from the bush on the side of the house and putting them in glass vases on the kitchen and dining room tables. The sweet autumn clematis that cascades over the back fence and up the neighbor?s hemlocks. It looks like a white waterfall and fills the air with the scent of vanilla. The two beautiful maple trees in the backyard that were obviously shaped in their early years to beautifully complement each other. The beautiful rose on the trellis on the side of the house that is covered with the palest pink blossoms in the Spring. The beautiful birds in the garden ? cardinals, blue jays, tit mice, mourning doves, chickadees, purple finches ?- that come because of the bird feeder in the back and stay to raise their families. Seeing a hummingbird feeding at the trumpet vine or fuchsia in the early morning.
