My Notes

This exceptional estate property offers a stunning contemporary home on 2.26 acres with a pool, lovely grounds and breathtaking vistas of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. The house was built in 1986 and designed by Vassos Demetriou, a Kirkland based architect recognized for his fine custom residential projects. The clean-lined exterior features stucco walls, a flat roof and porte cochere entry. Classical architectural elements like Palladian windows and colonnades provide timeless appeal, both inside and out. Built with rich finishes and superb craftsmanship, this home also offers the ease of one-level living. Its interiors have a strong connection with glorious outdoor surroundings almost all rooms have water and mountain views and access to an expansive, wrap-around terrace. The house is privately situated at the end of a long, winding drive bordered by curved walls. The drive ends in a circular parking area with a brick and aggregate surface and central boxwood garden feature. The adjacent terraced hillside is lushly planted with rhododendron, azalea, maple and pine. The porte cochere shelters double glass doors crowned by a fanlight in the main entry. The doors open to a dramatic foyer with marble tile floors and a vaulted skylight. Wide passages leading to the living room maximize views and natural light. The living room has an extra high coffered ceiling with soffit lighting. Clerestory windows, some Palladian, add additional light as well as architectural interest. A series of fluted, round columns that line the living room wall are another classical feature. Floors have a hardwood inset. A magnificent wood-burning fireplace with an elegant marble surround defines one wall. Windows and French doors on the opposite wall look out on the pool and beyond it, to sweeping water and mountain views. The French doors open to a multi-level terrace with several points of points of access.Four additional sets of French doors in the living room open to adjacent dayrooms. One pair leads to a formal dining room with wainscot walls, soffit lighting and casement windows with western vistas. The others open to a library with view windows, walls lined in shelving and a wood-burning fireplace with a verde marble surround. Cabinetry conceals a wet bar with a sink and mini-refrigerator.A wide hallway illuminated by skylights connects two wings of the house the master suite and guest suite are located on one side of the entry, the kitchen and third bedroom suite on the other. The kitchen has traditional white cabinetry that offers a wealth of custom storage features. Backsplash and floors are tile. A large center island holds a prep sink and a 5-burner gas range by Thermador. Other appliances include a GE Profile Series side-by-side refrigerator, KitchenAid dishwasher, Hotpoint double ovens and Whirlpool trash compactor. Wrap-around windows provide water vistas, and French doors open to a side kitchen garden with herbs, vegetables and cutting flowers. The kitchen has a built-in desk and a pantry/party area with glass display cabinetry, additional counter space and an under-counter freezer by Gibson. Pocket doors open to a spacious utility room with a sink, skylight, built-in cabinetry and Maytag laundry facilities. This room also enjoys access to the kitchen garden. A back hall off the kitchen lined with storage closets provides access to the attached 2-car garage. Also positioned off the back hall is a bedroom with its own full bath. The master suite and guest suite are privately situated on the opposite side of the entry. The master bedroom, accessed from the library as well as the hall, has French doors to the terrace and a big dressing area with a skylight and abundant closet space.
