San Francisco architect Timothy Pflueger designed this amazing home for his own brother's family and completed it the same year he designed the landmark Pacific Telephone building. Also known for 450 Sutter, The Bay Bridge, The Transbay Bus Terminal, Union Square Plaza and Garage, the Pacific Stock Exchange and the Top of The Mark (Mark Hopkins Hotel) he created this stunning Mediterranean style six bedroom home and built it as sturdy as any of his skyscrapers. One of the very rare residences Pflueger designed for close friends and family members, this house has significance and creates a very personal and warm home.
Neighborhood Description
St. Francis Wood was developed in the late 1910s and 1920s, as one of the first planned developments in the United States. The developers secured the magnificent trees and park plantings, for which we are famous, from the 1915 Pan Pacific Exposition. With several private parks, including one in the backyard of this home, and grand fountains reigning over St. Francis Boulevard, this neighborhood feels more like a parkland than two blocks from Twin Peaks Tunnel. Just walk across Portola Drive and down to West Portal and you are just twenty minutes from The Civic Center, Union Square, the Financial District or the South of Market, by riding Muni under Market Street. West Portal has amazing restaurants and merchants, along with quick access to Stonestown and Lucky Superstore on Sloat Blvd. With several private, public and parochial schools in walking distance, your teenagers are within walking distance of Lowell High School, one of the top secondary schools in the country. With it's proximity to so many resources and protected by the lowest resident to acreage density in San Francisco, it is a great place to raise children and, having been born and raised here for the first seventeen years of my life, uninterrupted, I can say it is a great place to grow up.
 

What I love about the home

For more than fifty years, we have entertained guests from politics and commerce in the main floor living room, with dark wood cathedral ceiling and six foot fireplace, then enjoyed the quiet comfort of the library, with it's own prominent fireplace and roof deck. There are so many rooms in the house that you would never run out of space for hobbies, family and comfort.
