The Cipriani Residence is centrally located near Tiffany, Hermes, Pink, and BMW. In addition, within two blocks you can walk to one of the greatest steak houses in New York, Harrys on Hanover. The Cipriani Residence building dates back to 1842 with an astonishing history. Prior to becoming a residence building, 55 Wall Street was home to the Merchants Exchange, The Untied States Custom Service, and The National City Bank (todays Citibank). This building was designed by a Boston architect, Isaiah Rogers, who masterfully designed the building in the Greek revival style that was the height of fashion at the time it was constructed in 1842. The building was made of granite which was sent over by ships from Quincy, Massachusetts. The huge columns that tower over Wall Street were each carved from single massive block stones instead of smaller stones pieced together. The enormous central trading hall, still the buildings most impressive feature, was opulently designed and is surmounted by a vast dome and not a sliver of wood was used during the construction.  More Less

    Market guide

Zillow predicts Financial District home values will increase 6.1% next year, compared to a 2.9% increase for New York as a whole. Among Financial District homes, this home is 30.8% less expensive than the midpoint (median) home, and is priced 1% less per square foot.

Foreclosures will be a factor impacting home values in the next several years. In Financial District, the number of foreclosures waiting to be sold is 674.3% higher than in New York, and 84.8% greater than the national average. This higher local number may prevent Financial District home values from rising as quickly as other regions in New York.
