My Notes

Edit
The 1720 kitchen el boasts exposed hand hewn posts which give way to the beautiful 1880's victorian dining and living rooms. High ceilings, woodwork stripped back thru 8 coats of paint exposing beautiful patterned honey oak. The front parlor and welcoming front hallway with colored glass windows have seen many visitors come and go. Beautiful bronze door hardware and the original crank turn bell! A place with history and family living awaits its next chapter. Single Family? Business in house? Split up for Rental units? Its your call! I've lovingly cared for this home for 23 years and it's time for the next lover of history to take the baton and finish where i've left off. The 'ugly' stuff is done, (2006) the securing of the home, 30 year roof, 38 new windows, new heat, new central air, electrical upgrade etc. what's left is the 'pretty stuff' - the kitchen, baths and your paint colors! WAIT, don't forget the barn! 3.5 floors for wood shop, animals, classic car storage, what have you. I will say the barn is in need of a new roof and some repairs, but its a 75 foot barn just filled with possibilities! (I've listed a 'make me move' price - zillow had incorrect info on number of rooms and square footage so their estimate is low - the price i've set is not an emotional price, it is fair for the property due to history and location and condition. I'm ready to move on without regrets! Close to major highways, train station & shopping, 20 minutes to the coast, 45 to Boston. Elementary & middle school is less than 1.5 miles, brand new high school.
Neighborhood Description
This house is the namesake for Sargent's Corner in Newton. Built by Alvah W Sargent, a NH Statesman circa 1720, it remained in the family for many years. It has only changed hands about 4 times since, and many of the original features remain beautiful in this showplace of a home. Great for a large family, or someone who enjoys entertaining. The barn needs some work (roof and some structural) but would happily house your menagerie without much work. The back lot, once a grazing field for animals could be utilized that way once more. It has a dug well in the back field, and the house has beautiful (and delicious) water from a 350 foot deep artesian well.

What I love about the home

There are many wonderful stories about this home - from the mexican treasurer who embezelled money to buy this house and later lost his life in a silver nitrate film accident, to the boston police detective who once named it 'centurian farm' the home was once the main house for the third largest estate in rockingham county. Its private, great unobtrusive neighbors and close to the highway for easy commuting.
